I have classes of eager to learn multilevel 9th and 10th graders who have been in the country anywhere from 10 months to 4 years. All of them are struggling to learn English vocabulary and master writing techniques in order to obtain high grades on high school tests and college entrance exams. They are from countries all over the world ranging from Puerto Rico to Cape Verde. These students have varying educational levels which results in a wide spread of literacy levels. I am requesting books (recommended from the state standards), and a weekly newsletter subscription. We can access these materials as a group and they can also work on them in small groups. The “Times for Kids" is very interesting to all my students especially my 9th graders. They are very interested in current events and most are interested in learning about technological advances.
