  • Supported Seating

    Funded Feb 14, 2020

My students love flexible seating and the choice they get in deciding where to sit. When I looked around the room, I noticed that my students were not able to have back support while using the flexible seating choices. The only seats in my classroom that had backs were the traditional seats.

When my students came into the classroom after I put the swivel chairs together they were excited! They loved to "act like the teacher" while completing their writing work. I saw students spinning gently while reading their books.

Before we left for our unexpected closure, I tried to get as many students using our chairs as possible. They all proclaimed, "these are the best chairs ever!"”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Books! Books! Books!

    Funded May 21, 2020

Thank you so much for donating books to my students. I am so excited to be able to give my students some books to give them some hope in these uncertain time. I appreciate the kindness you have shown during this time. My students will be so thankful for you!”

  • Tinker Toys

    Funded Oct 16, 2019

Thank yo so much for donating to my project. Because of you, my students look forward to cold winter days or days that it rains. They know they will then be allowed to use the tinker toys. They love to use all the toys, but especially the magnet tiles and Legos.

In our last science unit, we learned about different types of motion. One lesson we created objects with our tinker toys that moved in a back and forth motion or a spinning motion. The creativity that my students demonstrated was amazing!

Thank you for helping my students be able to think outside the box!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Diversifying My Library

    Funded Jun 29, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to my project! My students were so excited to get new books for their library and wanted to dig in right away! The first book I read them was about a first grade student with a loose tooth. So many of my students were able to see themselves in this book. They have or will have a loose tooth at some time this year.

We have independent and partner reading time daily in my classroom. Students are able to choose books to be able to read. I see many of the newly donated books in their hands.

My students beg to take the books home to share with their families because they see themselves in their books.

I cannot thank you enough for allowing my students to see themselves in the books they are reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Getting Comfy and Cozy

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

Thank you so much for donating to my project! When I transformed my classroom into a flexible seating classroom my students were amazed. They were able to choose the best seat for them. They got to choose between wobble seats, cushions on the floor, exercise balls, and surf and write tables. I was amazed at the self control that my students were able to show while waiting to choose their seats and then when using their seats on a daily basis.

My students were very excited upon learning that they would be getting the privilege of getting to choose the seat that would work best for them. They are becoming very responsible because the know it is a privilege to be able to use our new items.

Thank you again for helping to make my dream of a flexible classroom come to life!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Choose a Seat

    Funded Dec 3, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to our classroom. My students have love the new chairs you have provided. When I told me students we were getting new chairs, they were not sure what to expect. I showed them pictures, but they were unable to picture them in our classroom. When I pulled them out of the boxes, the students immediately starting claiming the ones they would use, they were so excited. They asked if they could start using them for reading. I pulled numbers out of a hat and the students who got to use them were so excited! Over the next week, every student got a chance to use each of the three different chairs.

We have a classroom economy system, where they can earn "cougar cash" for good behavior. I have attached a price value to each of the seating options and students are able to "buy" the chairs for a whole week with the cougar cash they have earned. This has really improved the behavior in some of my students!

My students have requested I get more seating options. I am in the process of thinking how I can fully incorporate flexible seating, include getting some lower tables and more seating options.

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom project. You have invested in the future!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

  • Savvy Students Need a Interesting Library!

    Funded Apr 30, 2012

I wanted to take a minute to thank you from the bottom of my heart for donating to my library project. My students come from a very poverty stricken background and don't often get new school supplies. For my students, holding a brand new book in their hands is priceless!

When the books arrived at school, I opened the box and my students instantly wanted to drop what they were doing and grab a book and read. You have helped my students to gain interest in books. You have also helped me spread the love of reading to my first graders.

Without donors like you, classrooms around the world would be forced to read boring, old books.

Thank you for the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Simpson

I have many different students in my classroom. 70% of my students speak English as a second language and many qualify for free or reduced lunch. My goal is to make learning fun for my students so they learn without even realizing it! In our school we feel love is the most powerful tool in our teaching toolbox. Our students come to school and not only learn to read and do math, but they also are learning how to become a good person.
