I teach at an urban neighborhood school in Pennsylvania. This fall, our district opened without many resources other schools take for granted. Instead of bemoaning our situation, I have decided to adopt a Survivor Island attitude, where I have to make do with what I do have. This means finding innovative ways to use the resources available to me, rather than focusing on the ones I don't. One of the most important resources is my students. They are a source of inspiration and resilience for me. My students come to school curious, eager to learn, and ready for challenge.
