  • Let's Pretend! Dramatic Play and Early Childhood Development

    Funded Dec 22, 2015

Thank you so very much for contributing to my classroom donor's choose project this year! My first graders have been very excited to explore the new materials and incorporate them into our dramatic play areas these past few months. Each time we opened a new box of materials, the class discussed how to use them and have quickly chosen their favorite of each of the new materials.

Each day we have a special time for students to explore the classroom and engage in dramatic play of their choice. The addition of these new toys, games, and materials has revitalized this part of our day, and allowed students an opportunity to learn about and try new things.

From all of us here in first grade, we're sending you a HUGE thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gibson

  • We Make! Kindergarten and Fiber Art

    Funded Jan 9, 2015

I wanted to say thank you so very much for your generous donations that supported the creativity and artistic development of my students! Since we received these new items, our room has become an interactive fiber arts studio!! My students have been excited to learn how to use the sewing machine, and each created small creatures first through hand sewing, and then larger ocean creatures (such as a giant blue whale) using our new sewing machines! These materials will continue to help my students learn and grow as fiber artists! Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Let's Pretend! Dramatic Play and Early Childhood Development

    Funded Mar 26, 2014

I wanted to say thank you so very much for your generous donations

that supported the creativity and imaginative play of my students!

Since we received these new items, our classroom has been a

beehive of activity and joy! Students are engaged in different

types of activities and are able to try new types of games during

choice time. The supplies purchased helped my students to

create an interactive rainforest in our classroom--including

turning our loft into a rainforest research lab! Thank you so much

for helping these students flourish and grow in their classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gibson

  • Kindergarten Naturalist Project

    Funded Jan 25, 2013

As our school year is winding down and our projects are wrapping up, I am left with such gratitude for all of the support I received this year. Because of your generous donations, students' in my class were able to learn about the life cycle of the butterfly through hands on observation and experiences. They carefully observed an egg hatch to a caterpillar, saw those tiny caterpillars grow and grow, watched as they formed a chrysalis, and were amazed as the butterflies emerged!

In addition, students used their new classroom binoculars to learn about the natural world in their own backyard. Through weekly visits to a local park, students developed their birdwatching skills and learned to identify local birds. Because of this, my class was able to experience a taste of nature, while living in an urban area, such an important part of our world. As a small public school in a large city, we often lack the funds to carry out projects that are as rich in content and materials as I was able to do with your support.

I cannot fully express how grateful I am for your support. Because of your donation, my students were given such a gift that impacted what they were able to learn and accomplish this year. I wish you the most wonderful summer!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gibson

My K/1 students attend a public K-8 charter in a large urban setting. They represent a wide array of racial, socio-economic, and family backgrounds. They are inquisitive, quirky, and always eager to learn more! My students learn best though hands on experiences and projects, and delight at all opportunities to interact with the natural world. At our community oriented, equity based school, my students are taught using a hands on, art integrated curriculum. This curriculum strives for students to develop strong connections between themselves and the world around them.
