Fraction of a Chance
Funded Feb 8, 2022Thank you so much for donating to our fraction journey. The students loved to read the books about fractions. The author's brought fractions to life for them. Students could see ways that fractions are important even in writing books.
The hands on activities help the students develop a deeper understanding of fractions like I have never seens. Instead of only a few students knowing about fractions, I only had a few students still struggle when using fractions. The students really enjoyed work hands-on and manipulation pieces to make different kinds of fractions.
All the students benefited from our books and activities. The students were excited to get fraction games out even in indoor recess. They used the materials to help each other and achieve better understanding of our fraction standards and lessons.”

Funded Jan 5, 2018Thank you so much for the donation to provide class sets of chapter books to our classroom. The students have done an amazing job reading and learning from these classic tales. Our first book to read was The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Clearly. The students loved learning about the little mouse and young boy's relationship. It was fascinating to listen to their discussion of what was going in the story. We were able to learn about identifying the mood in the story and our feelings changed as the characters' feelings changed.
The students were really able to grow in their reading abilities. Some days we read the chapter together, sometimes we read with partners, and other days they read along as I read aloud. The students revealed in each reading. They could not wait to move on to the second book, The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. We will be comparing this book to the animated film. Some students who have seen the movie are already making connections. Before the end of the year we will read The World According to Humphrey by Betty Birney.
Again the students and I are ever grateful for your generosity. Thank you so much.”

Funded Jun 9, 2011Thank you so much for funding the project that provided 32 headphones to our school computer lab! Many students have been impacted by your generosity. Since the students have had the new headphones they are no longer distracted by not being able to hear. The computer lab is much quieter and the students are very focused on the tasks at hand.
I am very much inspired by generous people like you. I am honored to know that education is still highly valued by everyone that donated. You make me proud to be an educator in this wonderful country.”

What About This Author?
Funded Oct 5, 2010Thank you so much for your donation! We received all of our books and the students are ecstatic. They are reading them everyday and can't get enough.
The students got to meet him and listen to him talk about his books. They were so knowledgeable. Their questions were very high level.
We have made torn pictures of animals similar to the ones Steve Jenkins does in his books. We are planning more activities as we speak! This time it will be a combination of math and art.
I can't wait to share these books with more classes for years to come! Your donation will touch lives of many children.”

Funded Jun 5, 2009Thank you so much for your generous donations for our Writer's Workshop project. The students are excited about writing and with the books that we received they are making connections to the importance of being good at writing. Their favorite writing tool is, of course, the writing journal.
We use our journal everyday during our workshop, but the many of the students want to write when they don't have other school work to do. They love to share using our Author's Chair as well. This is my favorite thing. It is great that I don't have to buy a special chair and any chair can be turned into an Author's Chair for sharing.
The students are so excited about writing now that many want to publish their writing from their journals. I can't wait until I can enter some of the students' work into the Young Authors Contest. It will be thanks to you that those entries will be possible.”

Funded Dec 20, 2008Thank you so very much for donating these materials to our classroom. I can't wait until the students get a chance to read and study so many of Jim Arnosky's books. They were lucky enough to get one of his books this year. Their excitement was the reason I wrote this proposal. And thanks to your generosity they will spend hours learning about animals and the importance of nature. The books will be essential in a unit we are planning about habitats and the animals that live there. Thank you again for being so generous.

Funded Oct 27, 2008My heart soared as I read the notice that our proposal had been funded! One of my top priorities is to keep my students safe during my time with them. Your generosity in funding this proposal will help them feel even safer during science activities. The students love to do experiments and have studied how scientists stay safe. The class is excited to follow those procedures with the materials that you helped supply! Thank you so very much”
