Solar Energy and Cells... Science in Sixth!
Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you. Once again I find myself overcome with emotion as I bear witness to our greater humanity. Your generosity towards my class, these children whom you've never met, is truly a gift. I look forward, with tremendous excitement, to the spring when we will get to first use our solar ovens. It will be groundbreaking science for them and I truly hope it develops into a lifelong curiosity about and commitment towards sustainable energies.”

Funded Apr 3, 2015I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your support of my goal to spend my summer creating high quality curricula for my students next year. Thanks to your generosity I will be able to attend a summer school class, at a prestigious college, and work with a renowned educator. This class will provide me with the structure and guidance necessary to create the types of units and lessons my students deserve.
This work is all the more important because, for as you may well know, Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards have left educators scrambling to come up with and design new lessons. I respect my district's decision to not rush out and purchase any available curriculum stamped CCSS or NGSS. However, this does place quite an impetus on me to do the heavy lifting of major planning. Working with the guidance and expertise of this particular course instructor will insure that the product created will be of the highest caliber.
Once again, I thank you on behalf of my students, my community, and myself for your thoughtful contributions to our collective futures.”

Funded Sep 11, 2014I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in supporting reading in our classroom. I realize that your donations were made over the summer, but I only recently unveiled the books to my students. I chose to tie the fact that we were the recipients of such benevolence to the spirit of giving, charity, and donating that exist during the holiday season. The children were so thankful and their responses upon seeing the books were music to my ears!
"Mrs. Bailey, can we read the new books right away?",
"I can't wait to read!",
"Are there new chapter books?",
"Can we please have reading time right now?"
A priceless chorus of spontaneous cries!
The books you have given to our classroom will allow for an enriched time for what is called "Reading to Self." This is a period of 20 minutes, that occurs daily, during which the students are allowed to read any of the books they have in their personal book boxes, silently to themselves. It is a time that most of the students look forward to, and with the addition of the new reading material hopefully more will come to enjoy as well. For it is making that connection with just the right books that turns kids into readers. Your donations have greatly increased the odds that my students will learn to love reading.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Together, my students and I, had a very meaningful discussion about what it means to give from the heart. Your gift brought resonance to the idea of giving and a renewed passion for becoming engrossed in a book.”

On Beyond Fiction!
Funded Sep 3, 2012I cannot begin to express my heartfelt thanks at your generosity in funding such an amazing gift of non-fiction for my classroom. The students that I teach are such bright and capable learners, and they deserve to have every advantage. However, given the unfortunate state of education funding these days they usually have to go without the proper resources.
Now, with the help of your gift, the students in my classroom are able to engage with science and traditional folk-stories at a more meaningful level. Their thinking and perceptions of the world around them are being pushed and shaped by their own learning. This is so powerful and important for them as young learners, and it is your choice of giving that has made it possible for them.
Thank you for providing these students with the tools they so desperately need to explore and think about the world around them. They have already risen to the challenge and are off and running with new and exciting thoughts everyday. Without your donation this year would not have been the amazing learning experience that it has already become.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Bailey
Eager Readers Need Books!
Funded Mar 29, 2012Words cannot adequately express the impact your generosity has had upon my students. Your gift of books for these students has shown them that the world beyond our classroom sees them as important learners. They were overwhelmed to receive such a bounty of new and beautiful books.
When the box came, we all opened it together. The expressions on the faces of the children, as they looked into the box and started seeing the titles, were priceless. Each child got to pick one brand new book that they wanted to read and keep it right on top of their desk. Reading happened immediately. Afterwards, all I heard was the students talking to each other about was books - what they were reading, what they liked, what they learned! It was the kind of classroom talk that teachers dream of hearing. And it was your donation of resources that made it all possible!
So again, thank you. Thank you for taking the time to help these bright, ambitious and deserving children have the kind of access to reading and learning that all children need and crave.
