We are an urban public high school of about 450 students. Most students are African American or Hispanic and about 75% receive free or reduced lunches. Our school has 90% attendance and is known to help low-achieving students make great gains throughout their four years. Despite the fact that many students arrive at our school below grade-level in reading and math, 9 out of 10 students gain acceptance to a 4-year college before they graduate. Our students consistently rate the school highly in yearly surveys especially in regards to the caring nature of the staff. Our special education department is highly successful in getting students with special needs to not only graduate but also make the transition into higher education. Our students also show great initiative in starting their own clubs and organizations which have flourished at the school. The most recent club to be started is Girls Who Code which has inspired many young women to try computer science.
