My students are in a special intervention program for 10th graders who bombed their first year of high school. They are all behind in credits, discouraged, and have found school to be a place full of embarrassment, struggle, and defeat. Many of the students in the program are low income and come from very difficult family situations. Many of them have experienced divorce, death, multiple schools, and/or neglect. Our family-like program focuses on making school a positive place, teaching skills that will contribute to long-term success, and making up lost credits.
