I work at a Title I school where the great majority of our kids is economically disadvantaged. I have twenty one student that always walk in with a smile.
They are often ready to work, but when they're not, they are open enough to let me know what is bothering them. Sometimes there is no food at home, or a parent has been incarcerated. Other times, their parents are divorcing or a parent has lost their job.
I try to help in any way I can. However, I feel I can help the most when I can get their minds off their issues and into a meaningful lesson.
