Robotics in Autism Classrooms: Hands on Math and Science
Funded May 26, 2017It is with gratitude that I am writing this letter to you all. You were able to realize a dream that students with Autism deserve to have the same learning experiences as typically developing students have. Since receiving the robot, my students have been able to communicate with the robot. They are excited to program the robot and we have begun integrating math and science lessons with the robot programming for students to develop a better understanding of math and science and how it applies to real world examples.
Most of my students are eager to engage with the robot throughout the school day. Even children with limited verbal skills have used the robot to speak words and phrases adapting the robot as an associative technology device. I have observed that my students are more eager to engage in a math lesson if they know we will be using the robot and for that I thank you all; you have created a sense of wonder and excitement for learning in my students.”

Funded Feb 28, 2017Thank you so much for the opportunity to have my students exposed to the Osmo electronics and Tiggly words. Both these iPad accessories allow for students to use the iPad as an interactive educational device. With the use of Osmo and Tiggly, students can work independently or in small groups to practice basic reading and math skills in a fun interactive way. The use of technology, especially in a classroom for children with Autism helps to bridge the gap in academic improvement. It is through continued use and repeated practice that my students can generalize and maintain new skills taught.
My students particularly love the Osmo Pizza and Co. game. They are learning a variety of skills in one application. With the Osmo Pizza Co. game students "own" a pizzeria and must follow customer instructions in order to build the desired pizza for their guest. They must work to follow directions in a limited amount of time to get order precisely correct. After completing all orders they also must charge the customer and give the correct change. They are simultaneously working on life skills, math, following directions, and task completion. This application will hopefully prepare my students for career skills needed for future employment. My students are so excited whenever it's "Osmo" time. For the students that require more assistance with everyday skills Tiggly words has been more beneficial. With Tiggly vowel letters, shapes, or number cubes they are able to participate at a level that is more appropriate to their ability level. They enjoy practicing with the underwater application and exploring the letter sounds in a new way.
You have changed the lives of these students and we are grateful for donors like you.”

Stripes May Divide Us, but Hope Will Unite Us...
Funded Apr 9, 2013My students were greatly impacted by the class set of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas that you purchased for us.
After our high-stakes state testing, it can be very hard to motivate students to complete work or get them invested in educational material. Our class set and the unit plans I created for the book really made my students engage into a curriculum that taught them a variety of life lessons. I was able to teach my students with materials that was at my students' level and they were thrilled to have new books to use.”

Funded Aug 10, 2012As I sit here writing to express my gratitude to you I can remember the day I received the notice that your company was going to fund my project. As I drove home with tears in my eyes I thought about the impact that you will have on my students.
Working in a area with a high poverty rate it is a constant battle to keep students engaged while you try to find materials that will not cost you your entire paycheck. It is great to have companies that are still humble and that will partner with public schools to get our children the future they d”
