  • Building a Strong Community With Strong STEM Skills

    Funded Dec 22, 2017

We can't thank you enough for your generous and kind donations. I wish I had a picture of the moment when we opened the packages and the students saw the blocks for our classroom. One student called out, "These are for us?!?" They were so excited to get to work building new structures.

Little did they know how excited I was for all the learning that would be taking place in our classroom. When students work together to build structures they are not only learning important STEM ideas, they are also learning so many important life skills. They are learning to negotiate with each other, make compromises and come to a consensus - with all that is going on in our world at the moment, I believe these are the most important lessons of all!

Your kindness will not only have an impact on my classroom today, but for many future learners. Please know that your donation will be well used and very much appreciated for a very long time.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mackle

  • Cozy Up to a Good Book

    Funded Oct 13, 2017

Every day after lunch we put on calming classical music and the students are asked to choose a spot in the classroom where they can read independently. Before your generous gifts, we had many students crowded on the rug area because it was our only comfortable reading spot. Now that we have received these wonderful alternative seating chairs, students can find a quiet space anywhere in the classroom! These chairs allow them to remain focused and on task for one of the most important parts of the day - independent reading.

The alternative seating that your kind donation provided has already helped so many students in our classroom with their attention and focus. The students were thrilled to have their very own chair, and over time we have learned which type of seating benefits our different types of learners. These chairs are very durable and will be helpful for many more students over the years.

Our class and the students at our school are so thankful for your very generous donations.”

  • Puzzles for Problem Solvers

    Funded Aug 9, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation. Every day we work in small groups with our students to teach important phonemic awareness and reading readiness skills. While we are working in these small groups the other children need activities they can do independently or with a partner. The puzzles we were able to purchase are a great tool we use at this time.

Our students need a lot of work with language skills and these puzzles are great because they can work with a partner to complete the puzzle. Working as a team encourages language as well as positive social skills.

The puzzles focus on phonics skills, but also encourage students to problem solve together, and I can't think of a more important skill than that!

Thank you again for your kindness, please know that it is appreciated every day in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mackle

  • Back to the Roots - Aquaponics in the Classroom

    Funded May 22, 2017

We have been in school for only 10 days, and already my Kindergrtners are thinking like scientists. My students live in a highly populated section of the Bronx, and don't have much exposure to nature. This project allows me to bring nature to them!

My students have assisted in the assembly of our Aquaponics Farm and are now eagerly awaiting the arrival of our fish. This addition to our classroom will allow students to observe first hand the interdependence of our natural environment.

We can't wait to watch both our plants and fish thrive in their new environment!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mackle

  • Small Group Learning Made Simple

    Funded Jan 18, 2017

With these new tools we are able to break our students into smaller groups for more direct instruction on a regular basis. The easel and pocket charts allow us to teach more interactive lessons that keep the students engaged. Students love the more focused attention they receive and delight in helping us to take apart and put together poems, sentences and even words.

Thanks to your generosity my students, and future students will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful learning opportunities that will enhance their learning and make better readers of them all.

We can't thank you enough for your generosity and kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mackle

  • We'll Be Singing Your Praises!

    Funded Nov 14, 2016

Every day we try to infuse the arts into our classroom. Our students absolutely love using the instruments you bought to tap out the beat as we read poems, add dramatic effects as we read stories, or to just be creative as we sing songs about the weather, seasons or other important topics.

Research has shown that the ability to keep a steady beat directly correlates with reading success. While our children are engaging in creative play, they are also improving their literacy skills.

Thank you so much for your generosity. It is amazing to know that their are so many people out there that care about the lives of children. The children and I can't thank you enough!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mackle
