Problem Solvers
Funded Jul 18, 2018I work in an integrated co-teaching classroom and it is very important for us to work in small groups. These math games and puzzles have been a life saver! The students are very excited to use all of these great resources and can stay engaged in an activity for an extended period of time. I am very excited for the resources as well because when my children are excited and engaged - I get to teach without interruption! I feel confident that my students are learning and having fun at the same time.
Thank you so much for your generosity.”

The Best Seat in the House
Funded Apr 14, 2018Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donations. My students use the alternative seating in my class every day. Every student has an opportunity to use a modified seat - either a cushion, a wobble seat or a seat with a stability band. At first I allowed each student to rotate through all of the options and now every student has had the opportunity to find the modification that best fits their needs.
My students and I can't thank you enough for your kindness and generosity. They enjoy using their specialized seating every day, and I enjoy knowing they are able to concentrate in those seats for longer periods of time.”

Working Toward Independence
Funded Mar 31, 2018My students are all unique learners and I am constantly looking for ways to meet all of their various needs. These independent desks allow students to work on their own, or with a partner, in their own space. They can get away from the table full of children that might be too distracting and work on their own. They also may be receiving different activity from the rest of the class, and they can do this work on their own with more privacy.
These desks very quickly the most popular spot in the classroom after they arrived. Every student wanted a chance to use them, and of course they all got that chance. One student even used the table as a little hide-away during reading time.
Now that they have become a part of the regular classroom routine, I can really target the students that will benefit from them the most. These students benefit from the opportunity to work on their own and now don't see it as a punishment, but as a reward.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your generosity really means a lot to mean, and all of the students I work with.”

Mrs. Mackle
Wiggle and Wobble While Learning
Funded Mar 27, 2018The "wobble chairs" you have provided for may classroom will have an immediate impact on student learning. We have two of the chairs in my classroom at the moment, and the students that use them are clearly able to focus better and concentrate while doing work at their seats. There has been a lot of research into alternative seating and I can say from first hand experience that it has a direct impact on student learning.
These chairs are a favorite in my classroom, and the more we have, the less arguing will occur. The students that need them, love them!
It is also interesting to note, that some students will recognize that the movement is too much for them. Students self select these chairs, and as early as Kindergarten seem to be aware of their bodies needs.
I would also be remiss to not thank you for your commitment to Donors Choose as a whole. Your generosity is thoroughly appreciated, and your savvy way of providing more exposure for Donors Choose as a whole is most whole heatedly recognized!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Ripple.Let Them Wiggle and Wobble So They Won't Fall Behind
Funded Mar 27, 2018First, thank you for the wonderful gift you gave Donors Choose as a whole. You have given us great recognition in the media and you will hopefully have a "Ripple" effect across the country. The "wobble chairs" you have provided for my classroom are a wonderful resource for our very active students. Kindergarten has become more and more academic, and we ask our little ones to sit for longer and longer periods of time.
These chairs are a favorite in my classroom and your donation will be much appreciated by many. So many of my students need this as a resource but I only have two at the moment.
Going forward I plan to research other types of alternative seating for my students so that every student is given the best opportunity to succeed.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Ripple. We Need More Drama!
Funded Jan 19, 2018Each day in Kindergarten we break into small groups for guided reading. While small groups of students are working with the teacher, other students are allowed to choose an activity. The puppet center is a favorite in our class, and it is often chosen before computers or ipads!
Through Donors Choose I have obtained a puppet theater and many different puppets. The puppets you provided are for some of our favorite stories. The children were so excited to finally be able to act out "Owl Babies," and "Little Red Riding Hood." Our class was also excited to create puppets of their own.
The puppet area is not only a favorite of the students, I love it as well. My students have very low language skills and this area is a great place for them to expand their vocabularies and practice communicating their thoughts. When creating their plays students must also collaborate with each other - one of the most important skills to learn in Kindergarten, and in life.”

Math Games Add Up to Great Learning
Funded Jan 15, 2018The variety of math games that you provided have allowed me to differentiate learning time and have directly impacted student learning. Students are much more engaged in their independent activities, allowing me to work more closely with those students most in need, with little to now interruptions.
Prior to your very generous donation, students were reluctant to go to math games and often became disruptive. When they saw all the new and engaging activities they could use they began to choose games first - even over the computers!
What is also great about these math activities is that they encourage discussion and active engagement between my students. This helps them to increase their oral language, which is so important for my student population.
Thank you from the bottom of all of our hearts!”

Listen Up! We Need Phonics Phones!
Funded Jan 10, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donation. Writing is one of the most complex tasks a student has to attempt as a five year old. They have to think of what they want to say, think of the sounds they hear in each word, remember how to write those sounds and use their small motor skills to create those words! Writing is serious business!
I wish you could have seen the look on the kids faces when they found out that they no longer had to share the phonics phones! We have been using this tool to help us with our writing all year, but we only have a few phones and everyone is always fighting to use one. Now each student can keep a phonics phone next to them as they learn to write.
Your very thoughtful gift will have a great impact on the learning and lives of my students this year, and for many years to come.”

Mrs. Mackle
Building Great Minds With Thinking Blocks
Funded Dec 21, 2017We can't thank you enough for your generous and kind donations. I wish I had a picture of the moment when we opened the packages and the students saw the blocks for our classroom. One student called out, "These are for us?!?" They were so excited to get to work building new structures.
Little did they know how excited I was for all the learning that would be taking place in our classroom. When students work together to build structures they are not only learning important STEM ideas, they are also learning so many important life skills. They are learning to negotiate with each other, make compromises and come to a consensus - with all that is going on in our world at the moment, I believe these are the most important lessons of all!
Your kindness will not only have an impact on my classroom today, but for many future learners. Please know that your donation will be well used and very much appreciated for a very long time.”
