  • Dancing the Distance With Ms. S.

    Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the MacBook Air. With your support, we have been able to take our dance classes to new heights during this time of distance learning. Through the use of technology, I can share Google Slides with my students that are interactive, include dance history, and include videos of dance performances.

    The most exciting part about my new MacBook Air is that all of my dance lessons are now live through Zoom! Before your benevolent gift, I was not able to teach live lessons with my students. I get to interact with my students daily. I can teach a concept and give immediate feedback. I can even create videos for them to use asynchronously!

    I am thrilled that many students have become more expressive during our live classes. We begin class each day with mindful moments in which we express gratitude. We often run out of time to share our gratitude and accomplishments because everyone has warmed up to the idea of speaking in front of the whole class and being spotlighted on screen! Thank you for helping me make meaning connections and fostering the creativity of our youth.”

  • Dancing to Success

    I am sincerely grateful for the contribution that you have all made to my students. Since we received our Bose Speaker Dock, things have been much more productive in our classes! We can hear the music much better when we are in dance class. The speaker also has a remote control, so I can stop and start the music from across the room whenever necessary. This is a much needed feature when you teach elementary school. I also realized that it is attachable to other electronics and enhances the sound quality of our class computer.

    We used our Bose Speaker everyday during our festival rehearsals outside and it was a million times more effective than the previous years with a small boom box and CDs. The pictures that I posted are from our Dance Around the World Festival where I taught choreography and each grade level performed celebrating the diversity of our school community. This year a few people came up to me and said, "This was your best dance festival ever." I owe it all to you!

My students are a diverse set of learners who are growing as dancers everyday. My educational dance curriculum offers them experiences in creative dance, ballroom, hip hop, and multi-cultural dances, to name a few. My students have a broad range of abilities and different strengths and weaknesses. They enjoy learning and appreciate new experiences, as well as sharing what they have learned with parents and the community. In California, schools are struggling due to debilitating budget cuts, our school is no exception. As a dance educator, I am challenged yearly with the threat of the arts being cut from our school district and I am challenged daily with the increasing need for materials to keep our dance program innovative and technologically current.
