  • Electric Sharpener for 27 Second Graders!

    Funded Jun 9, 2011

I want to start this letter off by telling you how truly grateful I am for your generosity and care. You have made a world of difference to my children. Your donation has completely changed the flow of learning in my classroom.

It might sound silly, but pencils are the biggest supply issue that teachers deal with on a daily basis. Thanks to your donation, my class no longer goes through the daily struggle of dealing with having to find pencils and not having pencils that are sharpened. Now, instead of focusing on finding something to write with, my kids are able to focus all their attention on their class work.

My children lead very difficult lives. They live in an extremely impoverished and dangerous environment. They have dealt with more hardships in their short time than most adults will ever have to deal with. It's acts of kindness like yours that give them hope and keep them going. On behalf of myself, as well as my students, I would once again like to thank you for your kindness and generosity. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

  • Basic School Supplies for 24 Wonderful 2nd Graders!

    Funded Nov 23, 2010

I want to start this letter by telling you how incredibly grateful I am for your generosity. I have been teaching second grade in the same area in the projects for 12 years now. Some days I don't know how I'm going to make it, but then I see one of my students smile or come up to me and hug me and it makes it all worth it.

My school is a "barrier-free" school. That means that my school opens its doors to all children, regardless of their physical or mental handicaps. It is amazing to see children with walkers and in wheelchairs sitting right alongside their peers in class. It's truly the way it should be in every school. IT brings me great joy to see.

I decided to ask for various basic school supplies for my class this year because my students lack the everyday items that all school children should have. It saddens me when some of my students can't do their math homework because they don't have a ruler at home, or they write in pen because they don't have any pencils at home. I give them as much as I can, but my money only goes so far. You donation has filled that gap. My students now have everything they need in order to learn and prosper.

Thanks to your donation, my class no longer goes through the daily struggle of finding pencils, paper, erasers and notebooks. Now, instead of focusing on finding something to write with, my kids are able to focus all of their attention on their class work. On behalf of myself, as well as my students, we'd like to thank you for your kindness and generosity. We are very grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

  • 26 Second Graders in Desperate Need of a Mini Laptop!

    Funded Jan 5, 2010

On behalf of myself and my students, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being so kind as to donate the mini-laptop to our class. You would not believe the use that my students get out of the computer on a daily basis. They are more computer-literate than I am!

I have two older Dell computers in my room that are very slow and are blocked from most child-friendly websites. For the past 3 years, it has always pained me to see 2 computers sitting in my classroom with no genuine or beneficial use to my students. Your generous donation has allowed me to give all of my students daily access to educational and fun websites.

To see my children on the laptop is a true joy. I purchased a wireless mouse to go along with it because some of my students still struggle with fine motor coordination. They take to the laptop like it is second nature!

My class is the only class in my school that has their own laptop and my children are so very proud of that fact. They don't boast to other classes, they just know that our class is special! They often ask me to go on it to research information, or to just go on fun websites to play games. It's such a joy to be able to afford them this opportunity.

Thanks to your donation, my students this year, and for years to come, will have a technological advantage that will greatly help them in the future. Words can not express my appreciation. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

  • Help Second Graders Capture Their Childhood Memories!

    Funded Dec 31, 2009

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and generosity. My students mean the world to me, and I try to do everything in my power that I can for them to enhance their school experience. My children have very little, and they cherish every single thing that they receive. What may seem like something small to other children means the world to my students.

At the beginning of every school year, I ask my students to bring in a baby picture of themselves so they can create a book about their lives. Every year, I am amazed at the amount of students who do not have any pictures of themselves, whether they be baby pictures or current pictures. As an adult, I have so many pictures to look back on and smile at from my childhood. I feel that my children have been robbed of this experience.

I have a great camera that was donated, but with the amount of pictures that I take of my students, I found myself going back and forth to get them developed every week (and spending a lot of money in the process). Thanks to your generosity, there are now no limits on how many pictures I take. I simply take the pictures, put the memory card into the photo printer and let my students press the buttons to print out their own pictures. It's such a wonderful thing to watch the excitement in their faces as the photos print. When I give them their pictures, their faces truly light up with joy.

Myself, as well as my students, are incredibly grateful for your kindness and generosity. Without your donation, I would not be able to give my students pictures that they can keep and cherish forever. I've already seen several of my students bring in photo albums that are full of pictures that we have taken this year. This could not have been done without your help. ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

  • Electric Pencil Sharpener for 25 Second Graders

    Funded Dec 10, 2009

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness in donating the electric pencil sharpener to my class. I work in a very impoverished area of New York City, and my children don't have much. They are very grateful for what they do have. Since I started teaching 11 years ago, I made it my mission to give my students the education, supplies and fond memories that the children in the suburbs get.

Every year, since my first year of teaching, the biggest problem that I've had in my classroom is a lack of sharpened pencils. I have bought countless electric pencil sharpeners, but they all died within a few months. I gave up and asked my students to bring in manual sharpeners. That was a disaster because they used them as toys and as an excuse to get out of doing their work! They would break their pencil points and then say they had to go over to the garbage can and sharpen their pencil. It was a complete waste of instructional time.

About 5 years ago, I decided to purchase an industrial strength sharpener that I knew would last for a long time. It was the best $100 I'd ever spent! Sadly, within about 2 years, the sharpener broke, and my students and I were left at square one. I have been dealing with manual sharpeners ever since.

Thanks to your kindness and generosity, my class now has an industrial strength sharpener that will last for my classes in the years to come. On behalf of myself, as well as my students, we'd like to thank you for reaching out to us and donating the sharpener. My classroom is already running much more smoothly and I've gained so much instructional time back!

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

  • Help Preserve Second Grade Masterpieces!

    Funded Dec 7, 2009

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so kind as to help my class out with the donation of our brand new laminator. I work in a very impoverished area of New York City, and my children don't have much. They are greatly appreciative for everything they do have, and they truly deserve the world. Since I started teaching 11 years ago, I made it my mission to give my students the education, supplies, and fond memories that children in the suburbs have.

I decided to ask for a laminator for my class because I see a sparkle in my children's eyes when they know that they just created an excellent writing piece or got a 100% on a math test. More times that not, I find these items crammed in their desks or somehow ripped or torn. This greatly saddens me because I know that in the future they would love to have their work to look back on.

As a child, my mother saved all of my work from my elementary school years. I have that to look back on now, and in the future as I grow older. It brings me great joy to look through from time to time. With your kind, selfless act, you have given my children the opportunity to preserve their favorite pieces of work so they can have them to look back on forever! This is a priceless gift. On behalf of myself and my students, we'd like to greatly thank you for your kindness and generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

  • Children's Dictionaries for 25 Second Graders

    Funded Nov 25, 2009

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so generous and selfless as to donate the dictionaries to my class. When I was growing up, I remember always having a dictionary that I didn't just look to as something to look unfamiliar words ups in. I looked at the pictures, the maps, the presidents - everything that the dictionary had to offer.

When I asked my class this year if they had dictionaries like a couple that I had purchased for classroom use, not one student raised their hand. Some had the generic Merriam-Webster dictionary that you can by at the dollar store, but not one had a true, thick, sturdy, information-packed dictionary likes the ones I had when growing up. Right there and then I made it my mission to bless every child in my class with a brand new hardcover dictionary.

When the dictionaries arrived, my children were ecstatic. They had only seen dictionaries like the ones that you donated from the few that I purchased to keep in the classroom. I wrote their names on each of them with black permanent marker to let them know that the dictionaries were theirs to keep forever. All of the teaching that I planned to do that afternoon was pushed until then next morning because I just couldn't bear to let them stop enjoying their new educational gift.

My children don't have much, and they are incredibly grateful for all that they receive. On behalf of myself and my class, I'd like to thank you for your kindness and care for the children of the New york City public schools.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

  • Basic School Supplies for 24 South Bronx 2nd Graders

    Funded Dec 29, 2008

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being so kind as to fund supplies for my class. It might seem strange that I asked for everyday classroom supplies, but this is what my class needs the most. Paper, pencils, scissors, games to play with and basic items are things that my students currently don't have very much of. I cannot wait to come back from winter vacation and tell my students that our proposal was funded. I actually used student input to see what they felt we needed the most of. My boys are the ones who requested all the Legos! My girls requested the class radio and the electric pencil sharpener. Thank you for choosing my class. They are a great bunch of kids and they deserve to have everything that other children have”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

  • Electric Sharpener for 24 Second Graders

    Funded Sep 29, 2008

On behalf of my students as myself, I'd like to thank you for your kindness and generosity. The biggest problem that I currently have in my classroom is a lack of sharpened pencils. I put out about 8 brand new sharpened pencils every single day, and by the end of the day they are either broken or missing! I can't tell you how much instructional time we lose out on because my students don't have pencils that are sharpened. For the past month, my class has been using little plastic sharpeners that I bought for them. We started off with 25 of them, and we are now down to 2. They break very easily and are not reliable. Having a brand new heavy-duty electric pencil sharpener will solve so many problems! I can't wait to tell my students. Thank you again”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

  • Basic Supplies for 24 Deserving South Bronx Second Graders!

    Funded Jul 21, 2008

I would like to thank you for your amazing generosity. Every year in September when the school year starts back up again, the thing that makes me saddest is that my students don't have any supplies to work and learn with. I ask their parents only for a few notebooks and folders, and I often don't even get that. Being able to give my new students the gift of their own pencil boxes full of brand new supplies will be a perfect way to start off the new school year! I can't wait to see their faces! Once again, I am incredibly grateful. Thank you”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wright

This means that my school opens its doors to all children in the community, regardless of their physical or mental handicap. You see children in wheelchairs and walkers learning and prospering right alongside their peers. It's an amazing thing to experience.
