Balance for the Right Decade! 2
Funded Apr 23, 2010The digital balances arrived with much anticipation, and my students and I couldn't wait to use them in our upcoming labs. The first lab that we used them for was an experiment comparing two different types of fuels. The fuels were massed accordingly before and after each trial and the results were the best I had seen in years because of the accuracy of our new balances. We have many labs approaching where we will mass crops grown with different fertilizers, mass different materials in our specific heat lab and of course they will frequently be used for massing chemicals and determining density.
Of course none of this would be possible without your generous donations, high poverty schools often don't get the chance to receive "modern" science equipment. My students are now able to experience some of the same equipment that colleges and laboratories use and the old, inaccurate scales that we have always used have now been put away - hopefully never to be taken out again!
Thank you again,”

Funded Apr 17, 2009Two weeks after the school year began; my brand new fish tank was delivered! My students, being new to me didn't have a clue what had happened to my last tank when it sprung a leak.
Over the next few weeks they watched as I slowly added water, chemicals, rocks, some duckweed, several large fish, and our newest addition, 2 small crayfish (still too small to eat the fish!) Not only have we conducted labs with the duckweed, as you can see from the photographs, but we spent several days studying and dissecting preserved crayfish. My students marvel at the living crayfish in the tank and yesterday they were able to observe one of them molting!
Above all, it is relaxing to watch the fish, and it looks wonderful in my classroom. I've even had students from last year drop by frequently to see what's new in the tank!
Without DonorsChoose and your generous donation, none of this would have been possible. The aquarium will be a continuous source of educational experiences for hopefully many years to come.
Sincere thanks, ”

Funded Jan 2, 2008What a great way to begin the New Year! I am so excited to tell my students we will be getting new ELECTRONIC balances! We are down to four inaccurate prehistoric "dial-balances" for our labs for the remainder of the year. Thank you so much for allowing me to bring my students back into the correct "decade" with your generous donation. I look forward to sharing some great photographs of my students using them.
Sincerely,
