My students live about 20 minutes from downtown Los Angeles in California. Ninety Five percent of the students get free lunch. Which indicates that most live within the poverty level. They almost all are English Language Learners, which means English is their second language. Their independent reading level is between second and fifth grade. Harry Potter and The Hunger Games have opened up a new love for reading. I want them to nurture this new found love. We can do this by giving them titles they really want to read.
