First grade is a wonderful year of first. Students are becoming independent readers and choosing some of the first books they will read and treasure. These books will be loved by all students who enter the classroom library. They can nestle into one of the cozy reading chairs or sit at the little round table with a friend to read with. Students will be able to check out a book and take it home to show their families how much they are loving to learn to read great text. When students are ready they can show their understanding and take a Accelerated Reader quiz or write their opinion of the book for other classmates to see in our class book review. It may even inspire them to write their own fiction or nonfiction text in the writing center.
