Engineer Us!
Funded Oct 28, 2014I cannot express the joy in a letter when my students saw these brand new K'Nex sets. We had a few last year and these really add to our collection. They have started building the roller coasters and absolutely loved it. I heard things like, "I wish we could build with these all the time," and "These are so cool," but my favorite was after three hours of building, I heard, "Wow I'm tired, but a good tired.!" Their brains had some major work out building these.
I can't wait to use these with my other classes. These K'NEX kits are allowing my students to be engineers.
I am so appreciate to you all and Donorschoose for making this possible. Engineering and technological literacy are critical for my students to make informed decisions in the 21st century to improve the lives of all of our citizens and you are a part of that growth.
Thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Peacock
Let's Go Sphero!
Funded Aug 25, 2014Out of all the things I have even gotten for my class, these Spheros have to be the best thing I have ever seen! Thank you for making the excitement in my class reach a new level for learning. As soon as I downloaded the program and charged the Spheros, I turned them over to my students and said, "Figure them out!" My 21st century kids when right to it with no fear. Before an hour was up, they were programming them where they would roll down the hallway and visited different classrooms. They were programming them to dance! They hated for our class time to be over.
As Steve Jobs said, "Everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer ... because it teaches you how to think." We know that deep into the digital age, the need for everyone to understand and to learn programming is becoming more and more apparent. Jobs of the future are moving strongly into computer sciences. Many studies have found, by the year 2020, that the number of jobs in computing will outnumber the college graduates in computing fields by almost 100,000. My students are being able to explore and understand programming and coding with these Spheros. Using Sphero as an interactive and engaging tool brings our core class work off the paper into real life application.
Thank you and Donorschoose for making this possible for my students to have this wonderful learning experience.”

Funded Aug 23, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donations to our project! The reality of our dream of having a mobile iPad Mini lab has come true because of you! Your contribution toward our project has made this possible.
These iPad Minis are really coming in handy. Just today, we researched Rapu Nui (Easter Island) as part of our World Mysteries Unit. My students new nothing about the subject and each group was given a different question to research. By the time we shared our research, we had a complete picture of Easter Island â all because of our iPad Minis.
With these iPad minis in our classroom, my students can do it all - create, connect, communicate, research, discover, and investigate. As you know, it is important that they have the best equipment available so they can compete with others across the country. One additional thing they are able to do is be a creator of new content on the Internet by learning how to code.
These iPad Minis allow my students to be able to expand their knowledge and give my students affordable access to the inspiration, excitement and learning that comes from participating in research and creating. My students will be prepared for their future by utilizing these iPad Minis.”

Funded Aug 4, 2014I can't begin to tell you just how excited my students were to open the boxes of globes. Ever since I had one of my students ask me last year, "What is U.S.S.R?" I knew I needed some new globes. We have spent countless days looking up where different countries are located. It's amazing how often something related to geography is presented and we are able to pull out the globes and pinpoint the location - especially as related to our own country. In fact, we are doing a World Mystery Unit and we were studying the Bermuda Triangle, and my students could point right to the area using these wonderful globes.
If it weren't for generous people such as yourself and Donorschoose, these resources would not have been possible for us to obtain. My students and I thank you from the bottom of our heart.”

21st Century Technology for 21st Century Kids
Funded Apr 18, 2014"Awesome!" "These are do fast!" "Look at that!" These are just a few of the things I've heard from my students when they first used the iPad Mini. Thank you so much for being the blessing to my classroom! We have started using our new iPad Mini and as I expected, the students love them. My curious gifted students are loving to be able to create, connect, communicate, research, discover, investigate, and, well, learn with this new technology.
My students are totally different learners than the learners of the past. With the limited resources I have in my classroom, the iPad Mini puts the world at our fingertips. I no longer have to say, "Well, go to the library or back to your classroom" to look something up when they have questions that I cannot answer. We can just take out the iPad Mini and find the answer. Our favorite thing we are learning to do with the iPad Mini is to create videos using iMovie of what we are learning. Also, with all the storms we have had this winter and spring, they can search for up to the minute weather reporting. My sixth graders are finally going to be able to access the Stockmarket Game without waiting half the class time to search for information.
This iPad Mini is a start for what I hope will be an entire mobile lab to use at my two schools. I am so excited to have such a great resource for my students. So, if you visit my classroom, our motto - "Tremendous things are in store for you! Many wonderful surprises await you!" our learning and excitement will truly be evident.”

21st Century High Tech Needed for Our Gifted Classroom Now!
Funded Apr 3, 2014"These are awesome!" and "Hey! These things work!" were just a couple of things I heard from my students this week as we started using our iPad Minis. I cannot thank you all enough for the impact this is having on my students. It makes them feel special that others know of the important of having up-to-date, "working," 21st Century tools in their hands.
I immediately found a free app to use with my third grade this week that helped with what we were learning in class regarding geography and the continents and major oceans. We looked at paper maps, watched videos on continents and major oceans, and then they were able to use the iPad Minis to test their knowledge on the free application. "This is cool!" was heard often.
I can't wait to see what they are going to be able to learn and create with this great technology. If it were not for individuals such as yourself who recognize the need, this incredible resource would not be possible for my students to use in my classroom.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

Ms. Peacock

Lights! Cameras! Action!
Funded Feb 17, 2013Imagine! We did and you helped! Thank you so much. This week was the first week we used our new digital cameras. In order to learn beginning use of the cameras, we did a scavenger hunt. Since my students are learning about geometry, I sent them off on a hunt for geometric shapes around our school. They had a blast. I was so pleased at how great their pictures turned out. Many of them used their great observation skills to locate geometric shapes that we take for granted and may not even notice the importance of them to our building. Our next step is to learn zooming and framing skills. Next week, we will be learning how to take "micro-pictures" and have everyone try to figure out what the picture was taken of since it was zoomed in and not totally shown. Our ultimate goal is to create personal digital stories.
Because of wonderful individuals such as you and Donorschoose, you have made this wonderful project a reality. Imagine what they are going to create.”
