Stay Calm in the Calming Area!

Thank you for your generous donation to our Stay Calm in the Calming Area project. Our TK students were extremely thrilled when they saw multiple boxes arriving to our classroom. Their expressions were priceless the picture is only a piece of the true action of excitement that was occurring in the classroom. I was able to open all the boxes with them. Students reactions were overjoyed some of the materials I received were feeling posters, emotional books, magna doodles, round seating floor cushions, sensory toys, such as clip connect, playdoh, Picasso tile, and stretch squeeze balls and more. We truly appreciate all the wonderful activities and tools we now have for our calming area.

My students now have a corner area where they can relax and have a safe space. For instance, students know to set the 5 minute sand timer. When students are feeling emotional they can walk over to the calming area. Students can work on an activity that will allow them to calm their bodies.

It is extremely important for TK students to be aware of their emotions and how to control them. Our next steps is to continue classroom lessons by building social skills. Such as sharing, listening, following directions, and empathy. These lessons will help develop students self awareness and positive behaviors.”
