  • Scribble in 3D

    Funded Aug 5, 2015

How cool is it to doodle in 3D? The students are already in possession of the coolest art tool imaginable. Who ever thought kids could draw in 3D in vinyl? The 3D Doodler is in the shape of a pen but you have an actual object when you're done drawing. Thank you so much for funding this amazing art tool.

We also appreciate the funding of all the vinyl refills so we can draw in beautiful colors. We'll be able to draw 3D objects every day at our desks with the ease of drawing that is usually ascribed to pens and pencils or markers. Our imaginations can run wild but then turn out an actual object we can hold.

Thank you so much very much for funding the coolest best art projects with the 3D Doodler.”

  • Model Magic and Paint Brush Pens For Student Creativity

    Funded May 4, 2015

The Model Magic and the Paint Brush pens have arrived and are already in full use. The students are having a wonderful time sculpting and those Paint Brush pens are fantastic. We don't have to use water and there's nothing to spill. The time we save getting right to our art projects gives the students more time to creatively develop their sculptures and paintings. In a classroom where time management is always a challenge, this is real gift.

Thank you so much for supporting the arts and student creativity through these resources. What a difference you have made. We are so grateful and appreciate your generosity. This is such a great way to end our year and make more memories.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alperstein

  • Financial Literacy: Managing Money Made Cool

    Funded Feb 4, 2015

Oh my goodness! Talk about fabulous. This is a wonderful gift to our students. They have started playing CashFlow and Day Trader and it's thumbs up on two excellent board games that teach financial literacy. The desktop computer was so easy to set up and now we are following the market and our virtual investments. We might even win the game, thanks to your generosity. The GoPro camera is up and running and the students are already planning how they will record their reflections. It has been a learning curve to acquire such an amazing camera but oh, the places we'll go, and the stories we'll tell. Stand by, Wall Street!

Thank you so much for your vision, your support, and the spectacular financial literacy resources. You have done much to change the landscape of education. We are grateful.”

  • The Proof Is In the Printing: In Color

    Funded Jan 28, 2015

We can print, and just in time! No longer do we see the message that there is no toner and we need to replace the cartridge. This was great news as we switched the cyan cartridge. Thanks to Donors Choose and our matching donor, we aren't worried about the "toner low" for one of our other colors. We are having visitors and now we can spruce up and show off -- in color.

Thank you so much for making this possible. Bulletin boards will actually look bright and nice. The cartridge has been placed in our fancy Epson printer which was also funded by Donors Choose. We cannot tell you how grateful we are for this support. Thank you for funding our proposal!”

  • It's A Big Universe: A Digital Reading Program

    Funded Jan 3, 2015

It's a big universe, and somebody has to read it. We accepted the challenge, and WOW, what a program. Every student has an account and can choose from grade level, genre, content area, you name it, they have it, and it goes from K-12. There is a writing component that allows the students to create their own books with original illustrations. It's just amazing.

The students said, "Now this is homework I can't wait to do at home." How wonderful to have a gift that gives students joy when they read, and they read what they like. I even have trouble convincing them to leave the program so they can go to lunch.

Thank you for such a powerful gift, a program that inspires students, and one that is joyous and worthwhile.”

  • Chess With a Grand Master

    Funded Jan 3, 2015

Our chess master has begun meeting with our students and now we are on our way to acquiring the tips and strategies needed to intelligently play this game. We began with a few moves and found out that they were not good ones. We really need our chess master's guidance. How wonderful to know we have support for such a program that can reach so many students. This is truly a gift that will have a lifelong impact.

We came in thinking we really know how to play chess but were humbled by our chess master rather quickly. Good thing he's going to be spending time with us. We can use his expertise. Thank you so much for bringing him to our school. How lovely to have such a visit that makes school so much fun.”

  • A Book Signing With Matt Blackstone

    Funded Jan 2, 2015

The books have arrived and my students are already reading them for our author study and visit from Matt Blackstone. This is a wonderful gift to the children who will treasure their signed copy of the book by Matt Blackstone himself. You have made reading and literacy all the more special by funding books for a visit by the author.

Thank you for your generosity and support of literacy. It means the world to us. This is how memories are made and I know in years to come those books will occupy a special place on each child's bookshelf, accompanied by the story of how Staples made it possible to own a signed copy of a book by a prestigious author. Thank you, Staples! You have made such a difference!”

  • Portable Speakers and Headsets for Multimedia Projects

    Funded Nov 28, 2014

We can now listen to our computers with the terrific portable speakers you have funded. We also now have two headsets for the students to use to record and to listen without disturbing others. This is such a great addition to our classroom. The speakers can be moved from one computer to another which gives us the flexibility we need to really make best use of audio online. The fact that we now can record student work onto the web using the headsets changes the nature of the projects we can develop. Thank you so much for your generosity. It has changed how we can conduct the class.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Alperstein

  • Sally Ride To the Readers' Rescue

    Funded Oct 28, 2014

What a terrific reading program! We have been exploring Sally Ride Science and the books online and the activities are incredible. Now this is the way to run a reading program. The students log in, choose their science area of interest, read the books, conduct the activities and answer questions. This is truly an engaging program that empowers children to take charge of their own learning. There are 24 specialized books to read on a variety of topics so the spectrum is one that takes into consideration differentiated interests.

Thank you so much for bring this to our classroom. Now we really have 21st century reading and learning in our classroom.”

  • Ballroom Dancing With Our Stars

    Funded Aug 24, 2014

The joy of dance! Our ballroom dance lessons have begun and we are off to an auspicious start. We absolutely adore the merengue and I must say, we are all getting the hang of it. Every student is enjoying the lessons as we learn the steps and how to partner. That says quite a bit for the teaching style and in addition to acquiring a life skill for social interaction, it's simply fun.

We are so grateful for the funding of this project. The arts are alive and well, and we're quite delighted that we'll be able to participate in the dancing competition called the "Rainbow Match". Our ability to dance the foxtrot, jive, swing, tango and merengue are our goals, and if the initial enthusiasm is any indicator, we'll be excellent competitors. Thank you so much for the gift of dance. What a difference it already has made!”
