  • Accelerating Instruction With Adjustable Technology!

    Funded Oct 16, 2023

I am happy to share the wonderful benefits we have seen with "Accelerating Instruction with Adjustable Technology" in our classroom. We are a Reading intervention classroom where most students struggle with decoding and comprehending text. Therefore, it is important that we devote time every single day to reading and having the resources to give students confidence is a terrific boost. Having tools, such as a flexible desk, provides students confidence to read from an ipad and/or laptop that can sit on a desk that adjusts depending on their size. Because our classroom serves students in K-6 we have many sizes in our classroom!

We appreciate donors like you, who are able to grant students opportunities to engage in and enhance learning experiences through generous donations. Without your contribution students might only have the option to read from a textbook or hard copy article. So thank you for helping us access technology and technology tools that can enrich our educational experience!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Franco

  • iPads to iMprove, iNspire and iNtensify Student Learning

    Funded Aug 22, 2023

Your contribution has helped one of our emergent bilingual students access the internet to translate content that he might not otherwise have access to. With this ipad he is able to research and explore in his native language and later translate it to English to complete assignments.

In addition to accessing apps, conducting research and engaging with curricular resources, our students are also assessed using digital curricular assessments. Having multiple devices allows teachers and paraprofessionals to be speedier in assessing and therefore deliver actionable feedback, per assessment data, much faster. Thank you for helping us be more strategic and productive in our teaching and learning!”

  • Picassos in Training

    Funded Jan 8, 2021

As you may know, distance learning has created a new sort of challenge for all students. Unfortunately, my students with special needs, have been significantly impacted due to their difficulty coping with stress and anxiety. We have discovered, however, that drawing has been a great outlet for their emotional stressors. So we thank you all who have contributed towards this project.

The portfolio and accompanying supplies have been instrumental in keeping them productive and organized on a daily basis. We start our instructional day with a ten-minute drawing block and it is amazing how much students have developed their artistic skills. Thank you so much for helping us begin our instructional day on a positive note!”

  • Wiggle Wobble Chair Feet

    Funded Oct 16, 2020

I would like to take the time to thank each and everyone of you for your kind contribution to my students. Distance learning has been challenging for all but especially so for students with special needs. Simple everyday tasks can pose real challenges when a short attention span gets in the way of learning. This is why your most generous contribution has made such an impact on this particular group of students who sometimes require the most simple kind of support.

The Wiggle Wobble Chair Feet have helped my students transform a simple chair into a wobble chair that allows them to rock back and forth to alleviate anxiety and hyperactivity. They are able to focus a little bit longer and sometimes that can make all the difference in the world!

Thank you so much for your support!”

  • Skits that Promote Kindness and Tolerance

    Funded Sep 29, 2020

Your generous contribution has created a multitude of learning opportunities in our virtual classrooms this year! The books donated have allowed us to read and engage in discussions centered around the theme and message of the stories.

The crafting supplies were used to create costumes for a class skit that was presented to parents. We had a lot of fun creating the costumes and engaging in conversations centered around preparing for the skit.

Thank you for making this possible for our classroom. We are looking forward to the next book!”

  • Developing Lifelong Readers

    Funded Mar 7, 2020

I would like to take the time to acknowledge your generous contribution to our classroom and to express my gratitude for the books. Without your contribution my students would not have had engaging books to read during this unfortunate quarantine. Although we have online applications where students can read, there is no substitution for having a physical book to read. My students with special needs are used to reading and discussing in class together so having the ability to continue our routine is of the utmost importance during this pandemic. Thank you for your kind donation.”

  • Recess Fun with Bean Bag Toss!

    Funded Nov 22, 2019

Your generous contribution has allowed my students with special needs the opportunity to engage in games that they find pleasure in. Recess for them can sometimes be frustrating since games on the yard tend to be exclusive of their unique abilities that sometimes don't involve team sports like basketball, tetherball or kickball. It has been very satisfying to see their excitement while playing with their bean bag toss. They are getting to be so good that they are planning a competition that involves students from other classrooms.

Thank you for making this possible for our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Franco

  • Spreading Reading!

    Funded Sep 23, 2019

Your generous donation provided a classroom set of headphones for our students with special needs. This particular donation was key in providing our students with special needs the much needed quiet reading environment that is not always available to them. As you may know, some students with autism engage in self-stimulatory behavior, stimming, that produces repetition of physical movements, sounds, or words that can be disruptive to others. This environment can be particularly distracting during independent reading time but the acquisition of headphones have made reading time calmer and enjoyable.

Thank you again once again for making a difference in our classroom!”

  • Get Hooked on Reading

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

Thank you so much for the technology that has allowed our students to access reading programs online. Students are now able to read in their independent reading level on a daily basis as having computers allows them to rotate devices throughout the day. The tablets have also allowed our special needs students to create writing projects on google docs. Students are now more motivated to begin and complete their assignments with their new technology since we do not have to wait for our day to go to the computer lab to work on our projects. We greatly appreciate your support!”

My students are 1-2 years below their grade in reading. To help close the reading gap, we will be using guided reading levels. Each student will first be assessed on their independent reading level and will then read books at his/her just-right reading level everyday. We will use "traditional" reading books in class but will also read on-line books through our school's reading program. In a few weeks, when students show progress, they will be reassessed for the next reading level. Additionally, using Chromebooks on a daily basis will give students access to online resources that they otherwise will not have. It would be wonderful if they also had the opportunity to access additional reading programs (aside from our school's reading program) online that will get them excited about reading everyday.
