• Help My Students Learn SAT Vocabulary!

  Thank you so much for your generous contribution through Donors Choose! With your help, we were able to acquire thousands of flashcards which my students are now using to study their SAT vocabulary words. When I told my students that they were going to be getting flashcards for the rest of the year due to the generosity of strangers, they were baffled. They couldn't imagine that people they had never met before cared enough about their educations to contribute to the flashcard fund. They were humbled by your generosity. Many of these students come to school each year with no school supplies to their name, so the fact that they will have flashcards at their disposal each week is truly wonderful. These flashcards have had an indelible effect on my students' vocabulary achievement. In past years, students would write the words on scrap paper, and then by the following day, they would misplace the paper and have no record of the words. The flashcards have helped to solve that problem, as every student in my class has been carrying all of their flashcards with them to class each day. If they finish an assignment early, they pull out their flashcards (without being asked) to begin studying independently. They have worked these flashcards into their daily routines, and because of that, they are easily retaining these words. Thank you so much for providing my students with these flashcards. Your donation has already been put to good use, and we will continue to use the flashcards through the end of the year. Thank you for supporting our educational endeavors!”

• Let's Give Kids the Tools They Need to Succeed!

  Thank you so much for your generous contribution through Donors Choose! With your help, we were able to acquire many classroom supplies which my students are now using to improve their classwork. When I told my students that they were going to be getting school supplies due to the generosity of strangers, they were baffled. They couldn't imagine that people they had never met before cared enough about their educations to contribute to their supply fund. They were humbled by your generosity. Many of these students come to school each year with no school supplies to their name, so the fact that they will have materials to call their own is truly wonderful. On any given day in this particular class, more than half of the students don't have anything to write with. If I'm lucky, one or two of the students might own highlighters. No one has white-out. The supply pouches have put ALL of my students on the right path to academic achievement. They can all take notes during class, highlighting important textual evidence when appropriate. They can all be prepared to tackle the day's lesson. That preparation allows all of my students to feel comfortable in my classroom, and that comfort is an integral part of success. Thank you so much for providing my students with these materials. Your donation has already been put to good use, and we will continue to use these supplies through the end of the year.   Thank you so much for your generous contribution through Donors Choose! With your help, we were able to acquire 7500 flashcards which my students will use to study their SAT vocabulary words throughout next school year.

  When I told my students that they we were going to be getting flashcards for the all of next year due to the generosity of strangers, they were baffled. They couldn't imagine that people they had never met before cared enough about their peers' educations to contribute to the flashcard fund. They were humbled by your generosity. Many of our students come to school each year with no school supplies to their name, so the fact that they will have flashcards at their disposal each week is truly wonderful.

  These flashcards have an indelible effect on my students' vocabulary achievement. • Twilight Makes Reading Cool!

  Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom library! Because our school library lacks recent young adult favorites, it is difficult to motivate students to read. Having enticing, relevant books – such as those in the Twilight series – available to my students is an invaluable tool in my classroom. In addition to showing the students that reading can be enjoyable and have an impact on their lives, pleasure reading also tends to positively influence their attitude towards academics in general.

  For many students, their indifference towards reading can be attributed to the fact that they have never read any books with which they could feel a connection. The Twilight books will solve that problem. I cannot tell you how many students have asked me for copies of these books. Many of these students have never read books for fun before, though they are between the ages of 16 and 18. They are incredibly excited that these books have been donated for them, and they can't wait to get reading! You have empowered them with a new love of reading and a new thirst for knowledge, and one cannot put a price tag on those things.

  Thank you for providing my students with an opportunity to enjoy reading through the donation of the Twilight series. It is an opportunity that they are taking advantage of, and one that is allowing them to develop heightened reading skills that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.”

• Wanted: Cultural Books for Multicultural Students!

  Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom library! Because our school library lacks recent young adult favorites, it is difficult to motivate students to read. Having enticing, relevant books available to my students is an invaluable tool in my classroom. The books in our new classroom library help to solve this problem. There are now books that I happily recommend to my students, knowing that my students will relate to them. Having books that appeal to all sorts of students is so wonderful, as there is a book for everyone. I cannot tell you how many students have told me that the books in the classroom library were some of the first books that they actually finished reading, and these students are between the ages of 16 and 18. While many of us were brought up being read to every night, most of my students were not. Most of my students do not have books in their homes, and some of them have never been to a bookstore. You have empowered them with a new love of reading and a new thirst for knowledge, and one cannot put a price tag on those things.
