Most of the students are learning to read and speak English. The students live in high poverty. Sometimes, the students come to school with their homework incomplete because they did not have glue, or scissors, or crayons at home. Also, I have found it difficult to ask parents to read to their children because parents do not have the money to buy books. The school offers free breakfast and lunch. We also offer free backpacks to students that do not have one. The school is located in a high poverty area that is also affected by pervasive gang activity.
