  • Pop Art Passion

    Funded Sep 3, 2024

My students were thrilled to see the Crayola Model Magic Clay arrive ! To begin their clay creations the students created a drawing of what they desired to accomplish; planning all the details, using their new Crayola colored pencils to record the colors and patterns.

Then the real magic began as they manipulated the clay into various shapes and forms until they had achieved their vision.

Next, the students used watercolor paints to complete their work. Among the Pop Art renderings were the mask from the movie Scream, food items including pizzas, donuts, a hotdog and a pretzel; even characters such as snakes and a dolphin. Their creativity blossomed with the addition of these supplies!”

  • Exploring Feelings, Creating Expressions, & Gaining Confidence

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

We have been very busy using the supplies your support allowed us to purchase! We have been able to use these items on many occasions and it certainly made a big difference in my students art experiences.

Having the wide variety of creative tools and mediums kept the students focused and the creativity flowing. Using the fish printing kit was a new way to create for them. As a community near water this was a fun eay to look at nature in a different way.

The creativity sparked because we had a variety of different types of mediums was wonderful for them to experience. Artists are blossoming here!!”

  • Distance or Direct: Demos That Delight, Inspire and Deliver

    Funded Oct 14, 2020

This technology was extremely helpful during this Covid 19 challenged year. We as a district have at times had to be distance learning. In addition, various classes and individual students have at time been distance learning mode.

Use of this technology has enabled me to post lessons online that the students could access at home. This allowed them access to the same lessons as those in the classroom.

Bridging the gap and maintaining the same quality in distance learning as we have in the classroom has been a tremendous help. The students who have been out and then returned as well as those on continuous distance learning have had wonderful learning experiences. Their artwork is the best they have ever done in some cases.”

  • Over and Under: Woven Art

    Funded Nov 1, 2019

My students love weaving! Your generous gift made it possible for more students to experience this art form. They were thrilled with the beautiful colors and textures in their new selection of yarns. Your thoughtfulness made them feel special and valued.

Weaving connects to so many content areas and learning styles. History, cultural awareness, math are the obvious ones and for those hands-on learners it is wonderful. Self esteem in learning a skill that not only makes something beautiful but useful is a wonderful experience for the students. Thank you!”

  • Washington Irving to George Rodrigue: Connections to Art & Science

    Funded May 23, 2018

It has been a wonderful beginning to the school year. We began the year with this project and the students were excited to get to do some science in the art room. The Tree Ring observation was a hit!

In the art room; seeing children every four days for 40 minutes, there is not a great deal of time to convey an idea to the students. Reading exerts from Washington Irving's book The Legend of Sleepy Hollow made the art project come alive through his wonderful tale.

In a few weeks, these students will get to take a guided tour through the Keystone Ancient Forest where Washington Irving rode in the 1830's. This guided tour will highlight the natural habitat as well as the stories and legends connected to the land. What a great way to close this lesson involving art, history, science and literature.”

  • Birds, Trees and Mr. Audubon Please!

    Funded May 29, 2018

My students were very excited to see the resources that were part of this grant. The bird poster and the books were so very helpful to the students! They got so excited about making their different bird creations.

It was amazing how realistic their art looked thanks to the great visual resources that this grant made available to them. They were able to compare the different birds they were familiar with to new ones they were just learning about. The tree photo and the leafs we used for rubbing were just the right thing to complete our discussion of the bird's backyard habitat.

It was a pleasure to see science working so well through an art lesson. Hopefully, this will be just a starting point for some of them and as they older maybe a more serious study of science will ensue. Thank you once again for your belief in our project and the support you gave.”

  • Creativity and Problem Solving:Imagining the Future Though Magna Tiles

    Funded Dec 28, 2016

Surprise and excitement showed on the faces of my elementary students the day we opened our Magnetic Blocks! They couldn't believe how many shapes and colors came in the sets and were so excited about them being magnetic. Then they discovered that there were bases with wheels and other cool elements we have not had in any of our other architectural building block sets.

The creations started off simple, but the longer they worked and the more they interacted as a cooperative group you could see more elaborately engineered designs. I am always surprised at the level of creativity that when given the materials and allowed to work collaboratively they can make.

We will continue to use these materials and incorporate them into our integrated art lessons as part of our S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Music) driven curriculum.

It really means a great deal to my students that people who only know about them through Donors Choose chose to give them these great learning tools.”

  • Reflecting And Exploring In Centers

    Funded Oct 15, 2015

Thank you so very much for helping us with our project idea. The students are making new connections with the architecture we have been studying by using these new materials. These materials are broadening the scope of the centers I already use during our architectural unit. At the moment we have architectural blocks that the students can create with and connect to prior learning. This new element allows them to see the architect's work from a different perspective. Not quite blueprints, but it does give the student the concept of that likeness.

The donations have allowed me to provide more opportunities for my students.

The experiences that the books and posters provide along with the centers already in place encourage my students to look beyond their current experiences into what could be through the arts.”

  • Listen to the Art: Using Music & Literature in Art Class

    Funded Oct 4, 2014

Thank you so very much for supporting my students in funding this project. The books and music made the art and time in history when it was created come to life for my students. Imagine that they are listening to the same music Picasso listened to while creating their own Picasso inspired work. The books had numerous interactive elements which made the artistic process shine in the spotlight. Questions about the artist's methods were answered and students were intrigued to learn more! The way that these books and music Cd's linked everything together made the lessons a spectacular hit.”

We are an elementary school that teaches all curriculum through the arts. Our students have blossomed with this approach, but still yearn to learn more. In addition to being an OK school, we also serve an impoverished neighborhood. Our parents genuinely want the best for their children as do our staff, but sometimes with few resources we are not able to bring additional opportunities to the students without outside funding.
