I teach 1st grade at the largest (1246 students elementary school in south Los Angeles. The majority of our families are low-income and qualify for reduced or free lunch. My English language Learner students come with many challenges and academic deficits, but they are enthusiastic, bright and eager to learn. They deserve high-quality, well-rounded educational experience, but with our current fiscal situation many resources have been cut.
