My students often surprise me with their ability to meet goals. Though their milestones can be few and far apart, they bask in the praise that is heaped upon them when they succeed. They are always looking for ways to show what they can do. My students are fifth-graders who are achieving academically within the pre-kindergarten to second-grade range. They are wonderful children. They need the extra help and modified curriculum that special education provides. They also need to explore the dynamic world of general education as much as possible so that their life experience can be regularly enriched and expanded. The general education classes that host my group will also be benefiting by helping my students overcome mental and physical challenges. The general education students will develop empathy and compassion while watching my students succeed with a different set of abilities.
