  • Picky Eaters Don’t Always Give Their Full Potential!

    Funded Aug 16, 2023

On behalf of my students and myself I want to express our gratitude for your generous donations. It is thanks to your generosity that you have helped provide snacks to my students.

As a veteran teacher I have seen how students tend to be very picky when it comes to school provided food, and I have seen how little they eat. I, myself have also experienced that feeling of not eating and wanting a little snack.

So again I thank you for providing snacks for our classroom and giving me the opportunity to have a pick-me up treat for my class during the day.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano-NBCT

  • Color and Brightness Makes the Difference

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

Your contribution to this project has made an enormous impact in my classroom. I have been able to create and put together so many lessons and activities for my students. Their independent learning stations have so much color now. I have seen my first grade students more motivated to read the words or phrases, because they want to find the matching word to the colorful picture. My kindergarten students practice the alphabet in their colorful mats.

And overall our classroom is more vibrant thanks to the materials I have been able to make and post around our classroom.

Thanks again for your wonderful kind hearts in making this project come to life.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano-NBCT

  • Calming Area

    Funded Mar 13, 2023

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for funding my "Calming Area" project. When I opened the boxes and shared with my students the books and materials we received thanks to your generosity, the look on their face was priceless!

There are days when my students need a little time for themselves before and during class time. The calming area you graciously funded gives them that opportunity. They have access to books about feelings, they have a quiet area to sit and to do some deep breathing and they also have the materials to draw to express how they feel. It brightens my heart to see them go to the special area and sit and share the books with each other or share their drawings with the class.

This project has allowed me to teach my students that it's okay to feel sad, upset, or nervous sometimes but taking the time to acknowledge our feelings helps us be better to ourselves and each other. I cannot thank you enough for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano-NBCT

  • Authors in the Making

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I would like to thank you on behalf of myself and my 23 first grade authors. Your contribution to our project made them so happy. Opening the box with their individual pencils sharpeners and seeing their brand new classroom sharpener made them beam with joy! They were eager to use the supplies and begin writing. I have seen the impact your donations have created in my class, they feel ready when it's our writing block. A flat pencil is not an excuse to begin writing. I have noticed a difference in the amount of time they spend on their stories. They want to write more and add details to their writing just so that they can have an excuse to sharpen their pencil. Interruptions are less, having their individual sharpener has made an impact because I do not have to interrupt them when they are focused on their writing and come up to sharpen their pencils.

Again I thank you for making this possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano-NBCT

  • Successful Readers

    Funded Jan 31, 2012

I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for your generous donation. My students love reading the Dr. Seuss library books. They are eager to read them everyday, by themselves and with partners. The books have really made a difference in their fluency for both my non-readers and my struggling readers. Their fluency levels have improve drastically. They have become more motivated and interested in reading. This is evident because when I take them to the library their selection of higher reading level books indicates improvement in their confidence and self-esteem.

As a teacher there's nothing more important than to provide students with a clean and a rich classroom environment which has been made possible because of your generosity. With the major budget cuts custodians are only able to sweep our classroom once every two weeks. Having my own vacuum in the class gives me the opportunity to clean my classroom before or after school, so that my students can feel good about their learning space. Now we do not have to worry about having art in our class and rushing to finish so we can clean up. Because of your kind heart students can have a safe and sanitary learning environment to grow academically.

Your donations have really made a positive impact with my students and my classroom. Your donations have truly made my students become "Successful Readers!" ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano-NBCT

This year I am working with 30 kindergartners and 30 first graders. They are all such a sweet bunch and have made great progress. I work with this group of students as an Intervention teacher and provide them with reading support. Although they are not always ready to complete classroom tasks. I have found that giving them a few minutes to themselves or just having them draw a quick picture about how they feel has helped them express their social emotions. The students I work with are mainly English Language Learners who come from Spanish speaking homes. Providing my students with resources and tools to deal with their emotions has helped them be more prepared to learn and improve in their academics. In the time we live in, academic achievement is not the only focus of our schools. Social emotional learning is essential for all students to succeed.
