French Magazine for Harbor Students
Funded May 2, 2018We are SO excited to have the project "French Magazine" fully funded! We so appreciate all of our friends, family, and anonymous donors for the love and appreciation for the work we do in the classroom here in NYC. Hoping to thank each of you in person some day soon! These magazines will help our students get more exposure to the French culture and also become more savvy language learners! Onward multilingual literacy! Thanks again!”

Matt Blackstone Author Visit
Funded May 2, 2015This project put books directly into 9th grade students' hands! We had the opportunity to read the book "Sorry You're Lost" together and talk about issues that the main character was dealing with, especially the intense emotions he experienced in the face of extreme difficulty, and how he dealt with them. Most of the people in the book club were young men (9th grade) and definitely could relate to the main character's issues with having to deflect when the "feels" got to be too much. Humor was identified as a great tactic for avoiding really dealing with issues. Ultimately, students recognized that feelings need an outlet. It was a great series of conversations. We met in the library every week for a month before the proposed date of the author visit. It was great to see students really engage with the text and I am looking forward to doing more of this in the future!”
With gratitude,
