  • We Need Ink, to Write and to Think!

    Funded Dec 10, 2010

Thank you so much for the color and black and white ink! Not only have we used it in our writing, I've been able to make color copies of student charts and centers. As you can see from the photographs, the centers help students learn skills such as synonyms and antonyms, contractions, spelling words and other things that they must become proficient in.

Charts such as the one that demonstrate to the students how to change the spelling of words when adding "-ed" or "-ing" are much clearer when the color shows how the spelling changes.

Without your generosity, the ink would never have been available, due to drastic cuts to education. I laminated the centers and charts so that they can be used for years to come.

    Thanks again for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sullivan

  • Color Printer Motivates Writing!!

    Funded Dec 10, 2010

The children and I were so excited to receive the color printer! Now we can print out reading logs, photographs for projects and bulletin boards in vivid color! As the end of the year approaches, we'll be writing a collaborative book using color copies made using our marvelous new printer. I've also been able to create and print colorful seasonal math and literacy centers using the printer.

Anything colorful is much more motivating to my students than black and white. The printer will help us meet our new writing standards that require students to write using a variety of digital tools.

This printer would not have been possible without your generosity, especially in this difficult economic climate. Please know that this machine will be used with care and my students will benefit from it for years to come! Thank you so much for your kind donation.”

  • Panasonic Camcorder Keeps Students Motivated!

    Funded Aug 19, 2010

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You have enabled my class to meet National Reading and Writing standards by using different forms of technology in the classroom. As you can see from the photographs, my students were thrilled when the camcorder arrived. It's highly motivating! The students can perform a Reader's Theater and do their absolute best because they know that we'll be watching on the television afterward.

The equipment also allows me to film special moments throughout the year. Without your generosity, this equipment would never have been possible due to severe budget cuts. I am so grateful for your kindness. I will take the best of care so that the camcorder can be used for years to come!”

  • Super SONIC Technology Needed!

    Funded Oct 9, 2010

Thank you for the laptop computer! It could not have come at a better time. I now have twenty-eight students in my class and the two classroom desktops no longer work. I am using the laptop for lesson planning.

The students are able to access the digital edition of the Weekly Reader as well as educational web-sites. We will be using it in the spring to co-create a class book that uses digital technology for research. This will allow us to meet state core standards.

Without your generosity, this would never have been available with the budget cuts to education. Thank you so much for helping me keep my first graders technologically savvy!”

  • Radio City Spectacular Offers Opportunity of a Lifetime!

    Funded Aug 16, 2010

I cannot thank you enough for allowing my students this wonderful opportunity! They were so thrilled to go to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. As you can see from the photos, each student received a printed invitation to the show! As the big day approached, the excitement built! Finally the day arrived and the students enjoyed so many things from the large staircase in the theater to the amazing decorations that they had on display (you can see some of the decorations in the photos.)

The children were so well behaved because the performance kept them so enthralled. They wrote about their favorite parts afterward, and it included the 3-D portion of the show, the Rockettes being "shot out of a cannon" and the singing Santas! Some of them had many favorites and could not pick just one scene as their favorite.

I am so grateful that my students were able to experience this wonderful holiday tradition. The children were absolutely astounded that someone that they did not know enabled them to go to this amazing performance. Thank you all so much for making this possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sullivan

  • Super Sonic School Supplies!

    Funded Sep 10, 2010

I cannot thank you enough for providing my class with so many necessities! The copy toner helped out so many times when we were short a copy or two. The sharpener keeps the class ready to write!

The composition notebooks are spectacular. The lines are made for first graders with dotted lines in the middle and room for a picture. The children are so motivated to write. They love the notebooks!

The sentence strips serve so many purposes! We have a color coded classroom library. Authors and genre books have special colors. The word wall is also color coded by subject. We also use the magnetic dry erase board to put special words of the day on the blackboard. As you can see from the photographs, the students can come up and write words on this erasable board!

I'm able to use the markers to make charts for every subject. The students can answer questions on the charts and make "corrections". We use the "art center" to store our papers, erasers, stamp pads and stamps. The students are eager to finish their work when they know that they're going to be able to stamp their completed work.

Without your generosity, these items would never have been available. These items will be used for years to come. Thank you for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sullivan

  • It's the Kids that Count!

    Funded Sep 3, 2010

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You can see from the photographs that we used the Elementary School Calendar from the first day that we received it! Not only are the children learning the days of the week and the months of the year, but they're also learning addition and subtraction. There is also a place on the calendar for coins!

The Days in School Math Activity Center is phenomenal! The class is learning place value as we count up the number of days in school. It also spells the number word and breaks the number into an equation such as 40 plus 7. My favorite part is the packet of challenging questions it asks. For example: which digit is greater, the digit in the tens or ones place?

The Teach and Store Chart Stand has truly been a lifesaver! We use it throughout the day for different subjects. The children and I can use different colored markers to differentiate what we're working on. The colorful bins underneath store markers, erasers, and coins for the calendar.

The File Folder Pocket Chart has helped the class stay organized with its papers!

Without your generosity, these resources would not have been possible in this time of budget cuts. Please know that the materials will be used for years to come. Thank you again for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sullivan

  • Super Sonic Dinosaurs!

    Funded Sep 7, 2010

Thank you for providing the dinosaur materials to the children. They are having so much fun and learning so much! As you can see from the photographs, they made the dinosaur stick puppets. They also painted their own dinosaurs. We're in the process of making dioramas for the dinosaurs.

The students used the Magic Tree House Books and the DVD to research information to write their own book. They're so thrilled because you provided them with a bound book! They are writing, drawing and labeling with such care because the books that they're creating are truly treasures! Their parents will keep them for years to come!

Without your generosity, these projects would not have been possible due to the drastic cuts to the education budget. This group of students are particular interested in dinosaurs, so this has been a truly terrific learning experience for them.

    Thank you for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sullivan

  • Can You Please Make Time for Kids?

    Funded Jul 19, 2010

Thank you for your generosity! Our reading and writing focus is on non-fiction and the Weekly Reader and Time for Kids is an excellent way to get the students motivated to read. The children love the color photographs and the large Teacher's Edition that I can share with the class.

Weekly Reader offers an on-line addition with extension activities that the children love. It's wonderful because they are learning and having fun at the same time.

Each week the students are able to take home the magazine to share with their families! We have already learned about school rules, apples, pumpkins, fire safety, friendship, transportation and more. Time for Kids does a current events issue each month.

Upcoming issues include such topics as Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and germs, among other things. These magazines enrich our reading, science and social studies curriculum.

Without your kindness, these magazines would not have been available due to severe cuts to the education budget. You have enabled my first graders reading all year long! Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sullivan

  • Panasonic Can Help Us Meet National Writing Standards!

    Funded Aug 26, 2010

Thank you for the digital camera! As you can see from the photographs, we already went on a neighborhood walk. We listened to a presentation by a Park Ranger. I took pictures during the walk, and the children have been writing about their experiences! We also have pictures of birds, other animals and trees and plants that we saw. This camera will help us meet the new writing standards that require students to write using different digital sources of media. The photographs can be part of their illustrations.

I also used the camera to take pictures of each child. So far, I've used it on the September and October bulletin board. The children are thrilled to see their pictures on their work, because it truly gives them 'ownership' of their writing.

On the Word Wall, I've asked students for special words that they want posted. Now I'm able to put up their photograph next to that unique word that they want to share with the class! Again, the children love to take ownership of their ideas.

Without your donations, this would not have been possible due to drastic cuts in the education budget. Students will benefit from this camera for years to come!

Thanks again for your kind generosity! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sullivan
