It's the Little Things that Count!
Funded Dec 2, 2014The children were so excited when the box of math "goodies" arrived. The computer math games have been the most popular so far. The children ask to go on the various games every day. They're learning skills such as place value and addition and subtraction, while having fun.
The board games are an excellent way to teach following directions and taking turns. Students use the number lines every day.
Your generosity enabled students to have hands on math manipulative's that are so motivating. Thank you so much for your kindness.”

Radio City Christmas Spectacular is an Amazing Experience!
Funded Nov 19, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donations to this wonderful trip. The children were thrilled that they got to see the world famous Rockettes, Santa, the Nutcracker, and holiday songs of the season. One of the favorite scenes was the 3-D through New York City at the opening of the show. The class also got to see the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. While in mid-town, we enjoyed all that New York City has to offer during the holidays.
I am so grateful to the support that parents offered to the children. It is truly appreciated. I am certain that the children will always remember this fantastic trip. Thank you again for your generosity.”

Spread the Joy of Music
Funded Oct 5, 2014Thank you so much for the donations for the I pod. Our class has a stereo that we received from donorschoose. Now we have the I pod which enables me to play different types of music as the children are working. We can listen to classical music as well as enjoy children's sing alongs by musicians such as Raffi.
With the I pod we were able to practice for our holiday concert. We will also use the I pod to practice for our Multi-cultural concert, Spring concert and dance performance. Without your support, the students would not have exposure to all of the music that they are enjoying on the I pod. Thank you again for your support.”

Funded Aug 19, 2014The Text Club was a tremendous success! Thank you for supporting this project. Due to your generosity, my students were able to read books that aligned to our ELA, Science and Social Studies curriculum. Even non-readers were able to participate and feel successful by listening to the books on CD. You helped to make my students happy and excited about reading! It has been a pleasure watching these children read together and encourage one another.
These books will be read by first graders for years to come. Your support of this endeavor is truly appreciated.”

Teaching with Technology!
Funded Jun 27, 2014Thank you for your kind donations to this project. Because of you, students are able to access educational web sites in our classroom. The children were thrilled to learn that people who did not know them were so generous to them!
I also use the laptop to work on lesson plans, write donorschoose.org proposals and thank you packages. Therefore, this is a project that will keep on giving! Without your support, this technology would not have been possible. I am very grateful for your largess.”

Ink to Help Us Think!
Funded Aug 19, 2014Thank you for your generous donations to this project. The ink arrived just in time for the start of the school year. It has saved the day several times already! During the first few days of school, new students enrolled each day. I was "short" of copies. Thanks to your largess, I was able to copy homework, notices and classwork in the classroom.
I appreciate that you helped to make my classroom run smoothly. Being short of copies can cause tears for first graders. This disrupts routines and lessons. I want you to understand the positive impact you had on my students.”

Funded Jun 18, 2014Thank you so much for your generosity! Mt first graders love to sing and dance. We will use the boom box for learning through song. We'll use it to dance to celebrate. We also perform several times a year for Multicultural Day, Holiday Concert and a Dance Performance. The CD player and I-pod dock will allow us to practice our performances in the classroom. (Practice time on stage is limited!) This is something that will used for years to come.
This would not have been possible without your largess. There have been so many cuts to the education budget, particularly in the arts. I am so grateful. Thanks again.”

First Grade Wants to "Butterfly" Into Science
Funded Dec 22, 2013Thank you for your amazing gift to my class. We've been observing the metamorphosis of caterpillars to butterflies for the past month. The children have been so engaged and learned a tremendous amount about the life cycle of a butterfly. We have observed the butterflies emerging from their chrysalis. This week, the students observed the adult butterflies laying eggs on the mallow plants. Caterpillars have hatched and the cycle is beginning again.
This is the kind of "hands-on" learning experience that my students will remember for years. When children experience something like this, it is easy for them to remember and understand.
We created a bulletin board to display some of the students' writing about the butterfly life cycle. Without your generosity this experience would not have been possible.
We appreciate your generosity. Thanks again!”

Teaching is a Work of Art!
Funded Feb 18, 2014Thank you for your generous donations. Because of your largess, my students learned about several famous artists including Van Gogh and Matisse. They also studied illustrators such as Eric Carle and Jan Brett. Students were especially interested because one of the books had a pop-ups! After studying and writing about the artists, they did artwork inspired by them.
My class also created butterflies using the butterfly craft kits and gem stones. This was part of a unit of study on the life cycle of the butterfly. We added the butterflies to our bulletin board!
Without your kindness these materials and learning experiences would not have been available to my class. We truly appreciate it.”

We Need the "Write" Stuff
Funded Mar 21, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom! We use the chart paper and markers every day to co-create charts for all subject areas. Students are able to work on charts together and post them in the classroom. Students are able to take ownership for the work in class.
Students display their work on the colorful paper that you donated to us. The children are so proud to see their work displayed in such a beautiful manner. The ink is used in our classroom copy machine and has and has "saved the day" more times than we can count. If we're out of copies, we can be sure the copy machine will save the day.
In this time of drastic cuts to education budgets, we thank you so much for your kindness.”

Ms. Sullivan
