First Grade Can Sink or Float - You Decide!
Funded Jul 30, 2008I can't express to you how excited I am that you funded my project! Your generosity will enable my first graders to learn science with hands on activities and experiments. Research has proven that you retain the most information when you "do" an activity, rather than just read about it. The materials that you donated directly support the curriculum and standards for first grade. Not only will these items be used by the children this year, they will be used for years to come. Thank you so much for your kindness”

Students (and Teachers) Need to Read!
Funded Oct 31, 2008I was so excited to see that you funded my proposal! The books that you purchased will enhance my social studies and science curriculum. The read-alouds are a wonderful introduction to a new topic.
The "Reading with Meaning" book that you generously provided will help me become a better reading and writing teacher. When students get a firm foundation in the first grade, their success rate for the future sky-rockets!
Thank you for making this possible. These books will be used this year and for years to come!
Sincerely,
Mrs. ”

First Grade Needs Word and Sentence Practice!
Funded Jul 7, 2008I cannot express to you how much excitement I felt when I found out that my project was fully funded! Your generosity will allow the children in my first grade class to practice making simple sentences by matching up puzzle pieces. This will help them learn color words, number words and sight words. The two word work centers have a picture and corresponding word that the students will spell using foam letters. As the year progresses, the children can use the other side of the card, which just has the picture and allows children to spell the words on their own. Please know that these resources will be used throughout this upcoming school year, and for years to come! Your kindness is deeply appreciated. You are enabling students to be independent learners as they begin first grade. Thank you”

We Need the "Write" Stuff in '08-'09!
Funded Jun 19, 2008Thank you so much for the "Correct the Sentence Journals" and the "I Can Build Simple Words" set. Your generosity will allow my students to learn proper grammar and punctuation from the beginning of the school year. Many of my first graders are Second Language Learners and proper English is an area in which they really need the extra practice. The word building activity will help them spell and learn vocabulary at the same time. They will spell a word that has a matching picture. The cards are two sided so that it can be used on two levels of difficulty.
Please know that your kindness will go a long way in helping my class achieve success in the '08-'09 school year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. ”

Help American Children Keep Up In Math
Funded Jun 9, 2008Thank you so much for your generous donation! I'm so excited that my class will have these math tools available to them in the fall. I know it will help the children learn their math facts faster than my current class did. My '08-'09 class will be able to use the magnetic board and foam pieces to show and write addition and subtraction equations. It enable them to create number word stories as well. The pieces are large and colorful and therefore will attract the students to want to learn their math facts.
I'm so excited to expose the students to these materials! Thanks again.
Sincerely,

Put a Book in a Child's Hand and They Can Go Places!
Funded May 28, 2008I cannot tell you the excitement and gratitude that I feel about your book donation. Your generosity will allow my first graders to read books at levels that are "just right" for them. With budget cuts to New York city, new books are a precious commodity!
When a box is shipped to the classroom (from donorschoose.org), the students look at the items with wonder and awe. They are always amazed that people donate items to them, but yet have never met them. My current class has learned the value of gratitude and appreciation. Your donation will surely do the same for my '08-'09 class.
Thanks again”

It Makes the Little Things Count!
Funded May 27, 2008Thank you for your generosity. My first graders will surely benefit from the various math resources that you donated to them. These "hands on" manipulatives will help them understand the concept of addition and subtraction early on. Without a donation like this, these materials would otherwise be unavailable. New York city is cutting the school budget and these items would be a rare and precious commodity to come by.
Your donation will allow the children to learn math both with their hands as well as visually. It includes resources for remediation, for students who need extra help. It also has enrichment for advanced students. Instead of waiting around for others to finish up, they can improve their thinking skills with Sodoku.
I'm very excited about the resources you provided for the coming school year!
Thanks again”

Basic Needs to End the Year!
Funded May 6, 2008My students and I are very excited to receive news of the funded project. Your generosity will allow us to have basic supplies that might not be available due to New York city budget cuts. I will be able to make many teaching charts for the students with the chart paper. Your kindness will help my students learn: addition and subtraction facts, how to tie their shoe laces, and cortical thinking skills. The glue sticks and glitter will be used for educational craft projects for the children. Thank you so much for helping our classroom run smoothly”

We Need To Read In 2008-2009!
Funded Apr 26, 2008I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to learn that you funded the Weekly Reader for my class next year! It is a colorful glossy magazine that has high interest articles about non-fiction. My current class has learned so much from it this year. In 2008, the subscription includes special issues for the presidential election. Your generosity will enable my students to bring home a magazine to share with their families. Many of them do not have books at home. Thanks again for the wonderful resource that you have provided for my 08'-09' first grade”

We Have the "Nooks", Now We Need the Books
Funded Mar 12, 2008It is with great excitement that I'm sending you this thank you note. My students love books, and these will be great additions to our classroom library! The books will allow me to teach particular skills to the children for different genres. In addition, some of the books come with a CD and the children can listen to them at the listening center. Your generosity is most appreciated and will be used by many first grade classes in the years to come.
Sincerely,
