  • Financial Literacy: Running a Class Like a Company

    Funded May 11, 2015

My students are thrilled to have the laptop and the classroom supplies. We truly appreciate your most generous donation to this project.

The items I ordered will help my students learn how their behavior (or misbehavior) can impact the working environment of a company (classroom). The laptop will be utilized for doing research and viewing videos on how to be successful members of a working community.

Furthermore, I will use the multi-colored file folders, clips, and erasers as part of the company store. The students will purchase these items from the store with the salary they earn for being well-behaved members of the company (classroom).”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zeig

  • Lions and Tigers, and Supplies, Oh My!

    Funded Jun 5, 2014

I am so grateful to Donor's Choose for my needed classroom supplies. With the toner cartridge, my students can print their papers. This toner was needed since my school no longer orders these supplies for the teachers.

Also, my students are excited about the Harry Potter books. Because I am a huge Harry Potter fan, my students are now interested in reading the books. These books are a great addition to my class library.

Thank you, Donor's Choose program, for allowing me to secure these supplies for the benefit of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zeig

  • BZ's Library Part 1

    Funded Jun 5, 2014

These books are a great addition to my class library. My students love the books that I ordered. The Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Percy Jackson books are a big hit with my students, especially my male students who usually don't like reading. Also, my female students can't wait to read the two remaining books in the Divergent series that I ordered, Allegiant and Insurgent.

Thank you, Donor's Choose program, for allowing me to secure books for my students to increase their interest in reading.

    Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zeig

  • Build a Better Library

    Funded Oct 21, 2012

Thank you for your most generous donation. The funds allowed me to purchase books for my classroom library. My students can check out the books from my library and take them home to read.

My students and I were so excited when the Wimpy Kid, Goosebumps, and Harry Potter books arrived. They started reading them immediately and couldn't wait to finish one and begin reading another. These books are of high interest to the students which increases their motivation to read.

Your thoughtful donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you again for taking an interest in my students' reading endeavors.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zeig

  • The Sound of Reading

    Funded Apr 25, 2012

It is with great appreciation that I write this thank you letter to you. Your thoughtful donation helped my school, my students, and me. The funding of my project allowed me to order audiobook CDs for my students. I knew that having the audiobook CDs would enhance the reading experience for my students, and that is why I requested the CDs for my classroom.

I ordered these specific CDs because my school has class sets of these novels but no audio CDs to accompany the novels. After I received the CDs, my students started reading the class novels associated with three of the CDs I ordered. My first period class read The Giver, my second period class read Maniac Magee, and my third period class read Where the Red Fern Grows.. Because my students listened to the audio CDs while they read, they accessed the stories more easily. Listening to the audio CDs allowed my students to improve their fluency and vocabulary skills because the students could hear how unknown vocabulary words were pronounced. In fact, after my students finished reading and listening to Where the Red Fern Grows, many of them said that it was the best book they had ever read. My students mentioned that listening to the audiobook CD made it better than just reading alone because the story became real to them and was filled with emotion.

Thank you again for your generosity and support. You showed an act of kindness that I will never forget. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Zeig

I teach at a middle school in Los Angeles, and my students live at or below the poverty level. My students face challenges every day, but they still manage to get to school. I want to help my students as much as possible so that they can become successful members of society. Reading is an important part of this goal. Many of my students do not enjoy reading, so it's a struggle to get them motivated to read.
