Two years ago our district adopted a new math program that was rolled out with much enthusiasm because of its hands on approach using manipulative and technological components. Unfortunately the district did not take into consideration that schools, such as mine, were not up to date on basic technologies. These technological deficiencies made it very difficult to implement this core subject area program. I documented lower scores on formal assessments while struggled to supplement the area of Math. I just did not have the technology to access the full gamut of the Math program. It was frustrating because I was working twice as hard with little progress to show for it.

When our overhead projector and document reader arrived my whole class cheered as we unwrapped the equipment. Those two items arrived just in time for our unit on division. Being able to project the use of simple manipulatives allowed all of my students equal access that they had never had. For the first time they found it easy to follow the math lesson. I immediately saw improvements in their understanding which was evident after giving them the division unit test.
