  • Waders for Water Quality Studies and More

    Funded Oct 15, 2009

I cannot thank you enough for donating money towards the purchase of the waders. We do 4 activities throughout the year using the waders. That means that they will be used 280 times this year!!! The students get so excited just to wear the waders, never mind the exciting things they learn while wearing them. These things include water quality measurements (like fecal bacteria, nutrients and flow rate), using a seine net to catch, identify and observe countless marine organisms, using a clam rake to experience the work of a clammer, and taking part in a horseshoe crab breeding survey along with a researcher at the local university!

You have helped these students learn to participate in real science, but it extends much further into the community because with the organisms we can catch, thanks to your generosity, we travel to elementary schools and teach the younger students about marine life. It is such a joy and education to both my students and the younger ones.

Your generosity has impacted in a positive manner the lives of hundreds of children. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Steitz

  • Marine Environmental Needs a GPS For Our Research

    Funded Dec 31, 2008

I am so thankful and excited about getting a GPS for my students to use when we conduct our research! It will be so useful for recording our areas of study but even more importantly, it is needed for safety purposes! We go out on a 20 foot Boston Whaler and we really needed a GPS in case of fog and for general navigation. We have no money to spend on supplies so we would not have been able to purchase this without your help. Thank you!!!

My students need your help to conduct water quality studies. The Marine Environmental Studies Program that I teach is a very unique program which offers 12th grade students the opportunity to learn about the Bay from a 20' Boston Whaler and from the shore.
