  • Little Artists, Big Ideas!

    Funded Aug 1, 2014

Thank you so much for the wonderful art supplies! The children have been so excited using them! They are also very excited to use the materials they see on the shelves that will be used in the coming weeks.

I just put in for a "supply request" at my school and found out there is not even basic white drawing paper available this year. This discovery makes your generous contribution that much more special. Without people like you, the students would be using crayons on copy paper all year!

Thanks to you, I now have materials for sculpture, painting, drawing, and collage. My kids have a lot of possibilities with their art, and I have many possibilities as their teacher.

Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brill

  • An Author and a Hero

    Funded Dec 10, 2013

Wow- I am just settling down to breathe after a whirlwind of a great day! My kids had the time of their lives meeting Mitali Perkins. It was so special for an author to speak to them, and being that we just finished the book Rickshaw Girl a few weeks ago, it was fresh in their minds.

Mitali began by showing slides of her childhood and speaking about what it was like to immigrate to the U.S. as a young girl. We got to see and heat about her experiences in both Bangladesh and America. My students excitedly related their own experiences as well.

Mitali then spoke about her mother's love for alpana art, and she showed us how to draw alpanas. The children has a great time creating their own designs as Mitali read aloud from her book. Mitali made the kids feel great about themselves as she held up individual students' work and commented on how it made her feel.

My students then had an opportunity to ask questions and we learned a lot about Mitali, both her personal and professional life. Mitali encouraged the shy children to ask questions as well, and she connected with each student individually.

I think the children will remember this visit always- I know I will. Thank you for inspiring my children as readers and writers, and also inspiring me as a teacher.”

    With gratitude,

  • Author Visit to Inspire Young Writers!

    Funded Dec 5, 2013

Thank you so much for providing the resources to bring Abby Hanlon to our school! This was an experience I will never forget, and I hope the children will remember it as well. Abby came and spoke to the entire second grade. She read her book, walked us through the process of writing and illustrating it, and spoke of her experiences as a writer, artist, teacher, and learner. Abby then took audience questions, and the students felt great getting to know her. After the presentation, Abby came to my classroom to give my students a little extra attention. She signed books, did an extra Q&A session, and she even gave us a sneak peek of her next book! All the teachers and students loved Abby, and you made a dream come true for me through this project. I will always treasure the memory!”

  • A Place for Everything!

    Funded Aug 20, 2013

Thank you so much for these fantastic materials. They have benefited the students and myself so much.

We are always running out of space, and the new book bins and paper storage solutions have made reading and writing time so much more efficient. I have even been able to store math materials in some of the bins.

The children love their personal seat sacks. These give them a sense of ownership of their environment, and the tables now have a lot more space for them to work.

I love, love, love my teacher organizer. I have labeled each bin by day of the week, and store that day's lesson materials, charts, read alouds, and homework in each. Coworkers are always asking me where I got them!

The children also love the colorful art bins, in which we store tape, glue, and scissors. It makes it so much easier to have everything in one place.

Once again, thanks for making my classroom bright, beautiful, and organized!”

  • Book Club Fun!

    Funded May 31, 2013

Thank you so much for the wonderful books!

When the books arrived, I held each one up and did a brief book introduction. The children were impressed with the selection! When book clubs were first introduced, they could not wait to pick their club so they could read their favorites!

Our book clubs already started and were a huge success thanks to your generosity. Kids worked in groups and read books of the same series, and thanks to the fact that we now have multiple copies, many kids were able to read the same books, which made discussions that much more valuable and relevant.

Thank you again so much on behalf of myself and my kids!”

  • A Love Of Reading Has No Bounds

    Funded Aug 15, 2013

Your names are alike and so is your generosity! Thank you so much for the wonderful books!

When the books arrived, I held each one up and did a brief book introduction. The children were impressed with the selection! Each week, the children get to "shop" for their weekly books. Of course the new books got chosen immediately!

I have been able to use a few of our new arrivals to teach reading and writing lessons. For example, I used a chapter book to demonstrate how to "recap" the chapter to yourself before reading on, to boost comprehension. Some of the books have been great for demonstrating examples of realistic fiction!

Thank you again so much on behalf of myself and my kids!”

  • A Place of Their Own

    Funded Jan 1, 2013

I really cannot thank you enough for the lovely "Seat Sacks." The children were so excited to have new ones to replace the old, ripped ones they were using. They were very excited that these ones had fancy name labels. The children enjoyed printing their own names and sliding the name label into the seat sack. I am finding that the students are so appreciative, they are being much more careful with their belongings, placing them in the seat sacks in an organized (for 7 and and year olds) manner. Many teachers have complimented the seat sacks and want to know where to get them. Thank you so much for making life in the classroom even more enjoyable!”
