  • Speech Therapy for Teens! Help Us Get College Ready!

    Funded Dec 31, 2016

We were all so thrilled when the materials arrived. As I mentioned in the proposal, it is not often that students who are in the upper grades, get speech attention! We have already put many things to good use already. First of all, we spent all of January studying for some very important exams that fulfill their graduation requirements. I introduced on the very first day, the fidget toys and stress relievers. Each student picked out fun colors and immediately used their non-writing hand to keep the fidget toy occupied the entire session. As we reviewed important US history terms and tricky multiple choice questions, two students who usually completely check out were engaged throughout the session the entire time.

After two weeks of hard core test drills, on the last day before the exam, I was fortunate enough to break out the Scrabble game. None of the students had ever played before. After explaining the rules, they all tried their best to form new words and one student, who is usually disengaged, ended up asking great questions in order to gain more points! In fact, he came in second place. Another student asked if we can play again and in teams. I am telling you, you have impacted the way my speech sessions run. These are sometimes too-cool-for-school-apathetic high school students who couldn't believe the session was over and were eager to play again!

Thanks for these materials, and I know it will make this semester and beyond so rich!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. O.

  • ESL Computer Broken = Inefficient ESL Teaching

    Funded Nov 16, 2011

Your contribution has helped my ESL students tremendously. With such a speedy donation, I was able to continue to help my seniors with their college applications and other senior related activities. I was also able to have engaging parent meetings in the past few months that allowed me to easily pull up transcripts in Adobe Acrobat reader and show parents web based applications that showed parents and students real time grades and attendance of my students.

In addition, in my ELA class, for extra support, I was able to use this computer to quickly access the Internet and show students pictures of vocabulary words that felt confusing or new to them. Some of those words included parsley, cot and Trujillo. As you already know, creating visuals are important and necessary for learning another language, so being able to share these images with students on this computer was helpful in my instruction.

Thank you again for your support and my students greatly appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. O.

  • High Need High School Needs Computer In Great Haste!

    Funded May 4, 2010

We are so grateful to have a new computer. It has really hurt us to know that someone, perhaps in our own community let a resource that we all need and use, disappear. However, your kind donation has completely changed that! Kudos to Best Buy also for their quick and speedy delivery! I am so impressed in how fast this project became funded and how quickly it was delivered!

Our Dell computer it beautiful. Currently, our technology specialist has been able to check out everything, make sure that it works and is getting it set up for classroom use as week speak. Your effort to make this possible makes me so happy and proud to know that there are those who care about the education of others!

    With great admiration and gratitude!”

  • Laptop for math gone! Help a math teacher out with an HP!

    Funded Mar 19, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation to my class room. The computer that you have helped fund has been an asset in my class room everyday. We have used it to track attendance and grades which we have made electronically available to the students so they are always aware of their progress. In my Math and Music class we have been able to measure frequencies, display and manipulate graphs and functions that relate and explain the relationship between mathematics and music, and we have projected and interactive keyboard that has allowed us to visualize and listen to the the difference between musical/mathematical ratio's on a piano.

With out your help my students would not have access to these very helpful resources. In every class teachers much be aware of the many different learning styles of their students. Without access to this technology this course would not have been possible.

Thank you for your significant generosity. You have helped make learning exciting which is a victory in any class room.

    With Gratitude,

    Mr. B and Ms. O”

  • Laptop Stolen. What Are Our ESL Kids Going to Do Now?

    Funded Dec 24, 2009

I am so grateful that you have contributed to my proposal. When I first found out that my computer was stolen, I really was in complete shock and worried about my ESL seniors. How was I going to help them write their personal essays for college and also fill out applications? I have so many seniors that need so much help and the lack of technology really frightened and worried me a lot.

However, you all came together and helped fund my project in 1 full day. I couldn't believe it. My students were so grateful and I of course was just as much.

Now, we have been able to salvage crucial and important time that was lost. I really do appreciate it and hopefully I can update you all when we receive college acceptance letters.

    Thanks again,

    Ms. O”

  • Make Our ESL Autobiographies Amazing!

    Funded Dec 18, 2009

Thank you so much for your generous donation. My students and I were absolutely thrilled when our materials arrived. It was really hard for us to envision how we would complete this project without the materials and time was approaching and we still hadn't received anything. I was so ecstatic to look in the office and see such an abundance of great and amazing materials.

Since Valentine's day rolled around, we were also able to use leftover materials to create Valentine's Day cards and use the cards we created as a fundraiser for more supplies in the future. If it weren't your kind and awesome generosity, I would not have have been able to create such a fun additional activity.

What's even more precious, is that we also have additional materials to create many more art projects to beautify our space. It is so important for ESL students to be able to have a voice and share their life experiences. You all made this possible. With strong admiration, Ms. O”

  • ESL Lit. Circles Need Literature! Help 15 Kids Learn English

    Funded Dec 8, 2008

I wholeheartedly appreciate your funding our project. My students have been aching to read a common text together and now we can!

My students have had a hard time learning English and I have been pulling from texts on the internet. Now each student can feel personalized because each student will have a text of his own. I really do appreciate this so much.

In May, students need to take a state exam that assesses them on reading, writing, listening and speaking. Reading this common text will allow students to analyze information and be able to read for meaning. This is so exciting!

    Thank you so much!
