“STEAM”ing Towards Success
Funded Mar 21, 2023We are so thankful for the new technology that you have provided our school! We have two new laptops for our Learning Lab. Every morning, from 8:00-9:00 a.m., students are welcomed in to the Learning Lab to practice reading and math skills. Students have access to Lexia, Reflex, IXl, and other online games to help improve their Reading and Math skills. Two teachers run the lab so that when students need extra help with their learning, we are right there to reteach! It's amazing and the students are excited to learn!
Now that we have 2 new laptops in the Learning Lab, we are able to increase our learning even further! Two new laptops mean students have access to learn via technology all day long! While we start in the Learning Lab, students on all grade levels, Kindergarten through Fifth grade, rotate in to the Learning Lab during their Resource time and also have access to these new laptops!
We are delighted to be able to add these new laptops to our Learning Lab! The students are excited to increase their learning and we are excited to have computers that work well with our students! Thank you again for your generosity!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Community First Cares Foundation & INK!.We are Energized Learners and We Love to Read!
Funded Jan 12, 2017I am so thankful to each of you for your donations to our "We are Energized Learners and We Love to Read!" project! After this project was funded, the students eagerly anticipated all of the new resources that were coming their way, and when they finally arrived, the kids were bursting with excitement! In fact, it was my students themselves who helped to open boxes, sort through books and put together our flexible seating! Yep, that's right...students helped to build wobble stools, screwed in the knobs to build our standing desks, and many students pumped air into the yoga balls and seat cushions (that was no easy task!!). The kids were thrilled at all of the options available to them, but our next big task was to come up with a fair system for trying out all of the flexible seating options.
For the last several weeks, we have been drawing student numbers and each student has an opportunity to choose a seat they would like to try out. There are a few rules attached, of course, for example, you can't catch air on the yoga ball, but all in all, it's really neat to watch the kids make decisions for themselves on what seating option might be best for them. As their teacher, I've watched the kids while they're wobbling on a chair, moving around on a seat cushion, or using a standing desk while we're having our lessons. What is fascinating is that I can see the students are able to be engaged in instruction and practice for a longer period of time. Let's face it, as adults, it's hard for us to sit in a seat for a long period of time--it's just not comfortable, but being able to stretch your legs, move your body, even stand, can be more comfortable. With comfort comes engagement. I've seen an increase with my students being on task, participating in lessons, and being able to work independently. I attribute this to the power of flexible seating that has been added to the classroom.
This is my 16th year of teaching and with each year, I face new challenges that were not necessarily present in previous years. This year, I feel very fortunate because I have an active group of students who are more than willing to learn. I love that about them! I felt it was my job to find a way to allow them to be able to move in a productive way and that's why I chose my Donor's Choose project to revolve around flexible seating. This was a need my students had and because of each of you, we were able to better meet their needs. I can't tell you how much I appreciate each and every one of you who supported this project. It truly has made a difference in the school lives of my students, and I'm so proud to have the opportunity to be the teacher of all 18 of my energized learners! We all thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

E-Readers...Can Take Us On Adventures Out Of This World!
Funded Mar 13, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation to my "E-Readers" project! I am personally touched by all of the kind words and support that each of you shared. The students are really enjoying listening to books read aloud on the Nooks. Just last week, there were lots of giggles as partners were reading books together! It's so exciting to watch the students enjoy reading. Everyday my students ask me, "Can we have some time to read today?" It's like music to my ears! As I've mentioned before, my goal this year has been for each of my students to fall in love with reading...seeing their smiles, hearing their laughter, and watching as they are zoned into their books...it's a true pleasure to see this journey we've taken develop into what I can only hope will be a lifelong love of reading!
It is really inspiring for me as an educator to see so many people in the community support education. Each of you shares my vision for reaching all children, especially with reading. I can't imagine life without a book and the numbers of books that will now be available with our E-readers is so exciting! I can't wait to have students download their favorites and discuss these books with friends. Each of you will help me continue the reading fever that I've been striving for each of my students to catch! Again, thank you for your donation to our "E-readers" project. Your support means more to me and my class than you will ever know!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Ford
