Art Venture Field Trip Snacks
Funded Jan 3, 2025Our Independent Study students work on coursework from home, without the support of teachers, and without the experiences of being with their peers. Field trips are a new way for us to build school culture and provide live social interaction between students. Many of our students do not know their classmates when they attend their first trip. We have observed students making their first connections with others through their snacks!
The snacks are rewards for taking the steps to come to a new place with new people. This can be very challenging for students with social anxiety. They see another student choosing the same snack and a connections is made. By the end of the trip, students have made new friends, and shared experiences with their classmates. Some have even said the best part of the trip was getting to know their teacher and making new friends.
Thank you to the donors who made this possible. We truly appreciate your generosity and kindness. Something as simple as this snack project is helping to improve student achievement one field trip at a time.”

Funded Jul 20, 2021Our MIddle School students have been challenged to participate in a debate from the Scholastic Art Magazines. I post the topics with photos of the issue in our Learning Management system. Some students have been able to come to school for supplies so they get an issue to keep from themselves.
Middle school students are using Art to build vocabulary. We create lists of adjectives and adverbs to describe what we see in the art, where it is located and express our response to the work. Students enjoy the colorful photos too.
Students read at home, sharing with their siblings or learning cohort. As we return to more "normal" school sessions we will use the magazines even more. Thank you”

Funded Nov 22, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donation to support our students on their journey to learn about American Culture. Currently, 3 students are using the donated texts to improve their reading skills, and promote reading for enjoyment. At first, we read the text together, in Choral Reading. Then the students are assigned to read sections on their own, at home, and participate with the text using their journals.
One of the next assignments, students will write a letter to Laura, asking her questions and offering advice about her move to Indian Territory. By interacting with the text they feel like they know the characters personally.
Currently, I am using these texts for 8th grade students who are studying American history. Also, these stories are beneficial for 9th grade students with reading challenges. I hope it will be the book that sparks their interest in reading as it did for my daughter and myself.”
