My students are kindergrtners with varying learning abilities, where over 80% are English Learners or English is their second language. One thing my students share in common is they have a great imagination. They rarely mention any role models in their lives who they can aspire to become one day. My students however, seem very interested in learning about workers in their community. Unfortunately, I have only a handful of small books that I read to them which, doesn't always seem to catch their interest. When they hear me mention a police officer or nurse their eyes gaze to see the pictures but, I can lose their focus before I even reach a third of them while doing a "picture walk" for the entire class. Imagine if I could reach the majority of my students through big books. I could engage them much easier and have more time for quality discussions.
