Our Calming Tent and Pet Home
Funded Aug 22, 2023Our "Calming Corner" has been a hit from the day we started receiving our materials. My class of four-year-olds squealed with excitement when they saw the tent and new table for our snake. The books about corn snakes and the toy snakes that we received helped the students learn about our snake, DJ Mango. We used the snakes to learn how to hold a snake with open, gentle hands.
The tent with pillows is a comfortable place that students regularly come to me and ask for "alone time" or "time to rest". Other times students might be having big feelings demonstrated by crying or screaming. The tent allows them time to rest, feel better and calm down. The tent has pillows that show faces demonstrating different feelings. My students, especially my bilingual students who are still acquiring English, use the pillows to show me and one another how they are feeling, by pointing to the face of that emotion. he books and calming devices that we were given through this project have brought joy to our classroom.I can't imagine our classroom community without these materials.”

Building a Strong Classroom Community
Funded Aug 26, 2016Thank you so much for your generosity in donating to my project. I am so excited to get it funded so soon in the year. Now I will be able to use these resources for my new group. I was just thinking today, how great it would be to do an end of the day activity each day. Now I will have a book full of ideas specifically for that. I am so happy to get these books and get started!”

Building A Kindle Fire Center
Funded Nov 27, 2012I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your gift to my students. The two HD Kindle Fires that we received are a huge hit in my class. You have given my students the opportunity to experience technology in our classroom. They love working in the Kindle Fire center, practicing their literacy and math skills in a fun and engaging way.
As you are well aware of, technology is the wave of the present, as well as the future. I have students in my class that do not have access to technology in their homes, which means their only opportunity for this exposure is at school. Now, in addition to one hour each week in the computer lab, they can use these incredible tablets in the classroom. The apps that I have downloaded for my five-year-old students provide practice with letters, letter sounds, spelling, rhyming, numbers, addition, subtraction, and other academic skills.
You have made an impact on the education of my students by providing them with these tablets and the cases to protect and preserve the tablets. Thank you for your caring and generosity for my current students and transitional kindergarten students for years to come.”

This classroom project was brought to life by First 5 LA and one other donor.Making Rug Time Easy and Fun
Funded Mar 17, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. Receiving and using our new rug in our classroom was a highlight of our school year. The previous rug that the students sat on everyday was dirty and worn out. When we received our new rug from DonorsChoose.org, it changed the appearance of our classroom and made my students take pride in our environment.
Our new rug not only improved the appearance of our room, but also gave us more reading and math activities to do during rug time. The students could use the letters on the perimeter to identify what letters come before and after a specified letter. They would also each stand on a letter and give a word that begins with that letter. The students used the numbers to do addition and subtraction problems. For example, I would give them a math problem like three plus two. One student would stand on the three, take two steps forward and would land on the answer. The rug was a great addition to our learning routine.
On behalf of my kindergarten class of 2011-2012 and my future kindergarten classes, thank for your generosity and investment in the education of our children.”
