  • iPads for Reading Success

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

Thank you so much for our wonderful gifts of two iPads and two iPad cases! My fourth graders and I were amazed and excited to learn that we were selected to be among the recipients of your generosity. Our gifts arrived within the same week of your Flash Funding and were put to use right away.

At the beginning of the school year, my students took turns taking their Accelerated Reader quizzes on the sole laptop computer in our classroom or would have to go across the hall to our school's computer lab. Many of them were not motivated to reach their Accelerated Reader point goal that I had set for them for the first reporting period. Out of 27 students, only 8 reached their goal while the rest struggled to attain even 50% of their goal. However, once the two iPads were set up on a special table in front of our Accelerated Reader progress monitoring board, student after student eagerly awaited their turn to take their Accelerated Reader quizzes. They were so enthusiastic that I would often have to request that they put their quizzes on hold and return to their seats so that I could teach my lessons.

Today marks the conclusion of our second Accelerated Reader reporting period. 17 students met or exceeded the goals I set for them--double the number of students that met their goals for the first reporting period. I am extremely proud of their efforts and have no doubt that your generosity helped play a major part in boosting their interest and confidence in earning Accelerated Reader points.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Iiguchi

  • A Class in Need of a Laptop to Succeed

    Funded Jan 30, 2012

My fourth-grade students and I would like to sincerely express our heartfelt appreciation for our new classroom laptop. It was received in March and put to immediate use by the students. For the past month, I have watched them excitedly take numerous Accelerated Reader reading comprehension quizzes and transform into more motivated readers and learners.

Our school district is facing yet another devastating budget crisis for the 2012-2013 school year. Without your support, my current and future students would not have access to the Internet in a classroom setting. I believe it is vital that students in today's technological era have the skills and experience navigating the Internet for academic purposes.

    Thank you once again! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Iiguchi

My fourth-grade students are enthusiastic learners who greet me with warm smiles every morning. Their positive energy, polite inquisitiveness, and hunger for knowledge make teaching such a joy. Despite being a Title I (low income) school with only a handful of my students owning their own laptops or computers with access to the Internet, they have set their standards for success just as high as their peers who reside in affluent communities.
