  • Numbers, Patterns, and Shapes! Oh My!

    Funded May 8, 2024

Thank you for supporting my project, "Numbers, Patterns, and Shapes, Oh My!" for my Universal Transitional Kindergarten students. The items are important and make an impact in helping our youngest learners grasp Foundational Mathematics skills. They are engaging items which the students like to share with their peers during our Math Centers learning time.

My students were so excited to open the boxes when they arrived. The photos tell the story of how happy they are! They love the many options of Math "games" they have. Thank you for supporting public school children in Los Angeles. You have truly made an impact!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Garces

  • UTK Students Like to Build It!

    Funded May 8, 2024

Thank you for supporting our classroom through our "UTK Students Like to Build It!" project. The items that we received are engaging and my students have really enjoyed using them. They are learning items that are supporting them as they gain fine motor skills, learn to cooperate and collaborate with peers, and language skills as they work together.

When we received the materials in this project, my students were so excited. I had to open the box and show them everything. We started using the materials immediately during our STEM learning time and they were a big hit! I can see how they are becoming more advanced in their critical thinking skills as they build more elaborate and challenging structures. Thank you so much for your kindness! We appreciate you!”

  • We Are Learning to Be Organized in UTK!

    Funded May 10, 2024

This year I moved classrooms and had limited storage for student materials. This project was created to enhance our classroom environment by organizing the materials we use on a daily basis. We encourage our students to take ownership of the classroom by helping to choose items they want during learning center time, as well as clean up after themselves.

The children were beyond excited when our Plant Manager, Jared, wheeled in the huge Lakeshore Cubbies! They wanted me to open it immediately! It was fun to see their reaction. This is their first year in Public School and they take everything to heart, that is something I love about them.

Thank you so much for supporting our classroom! We look forward to many years of using our beautiful Lakeshore Cubby.”

  • Outdoor Play for Universal Transitional Kindergarten!

    Funded Apr 4, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting our Universal Transitional Kindergarten classroom! We provide a play-based learning environment for our youngest public elementary school students, with some students beginning as early as 3 years, 11 months old. We strive to make their first school experience an exciting one where they learn to love school.

The items in this project were amazing! As soon as the items arrived the students were eager to see what goodies were inside. I did a very fun "reveal" with them and I wish you could have been in the room with us. There were cheers, kids jumping up and down, and kids hugging their friends due to their pure excitement. Needless to say, we put the items together as soon as we could so the children could enjoy them.

As is true with most children, they also enjoyed playing with the empty boxes! They pretended the smaller boxes were race cars and would sit inside of them. They pretended the larger boxes were caves where they could hide from the Big, Bad Wolf.

I just want you to know how much we appreciate your kindness! You put big smiles on all of our faces and you touched our hearts.”

  • Little Scientists

    Funded Nov 13, 2023

Thank you for finding my project? "Little Scientists". When we received the items my students were screaming with delight. As 4 year olds, they are "hands-on learners" and were eager to open the boxes and explore. We had recently been learning about Bats & they were so excited to view the Bay x-ray. They loved handling the specimens and viewing them under the microscope also.

These beautiful materials will be available to our students in our classroom Science center where children can explore them daily. These items will spark enthusiasm & curiosity in 4 year olds at a very important time in their development.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Garces

  • All Are Welcome in Universal Transitional Kindergarten

    Funded Oct 6, 2023

I want you to know how powerful this project has been for my students. I teach 4 year olds who are learning about themselves as they begin to understand others. The books in this project have helped us talk about our differences and similarities in an age appropriate way.

We completed an art project after reading the book "More Than Just Peach" where we discussed skin colors. It was interesting how some students referred to themselves as White even though they are Latino or Filipino. When I explained that the paper we were drawing on was white & they compared their color to it, they realized that they weren't white. It was a beautiful moment to watch each of my students look into the mirrors provided by this project and choose a matching color to make their self-portrait.

I thank you so much for funding this project which has given my students their first opportunity to discuss skin color abs ethnicity in a beautiful way. I look forward to continuing this discussion with them so they can understand how beautiful each of them is, and also to understand that diversity is beautiful and how lucky they are to be surrounded by it.”

  • Kindergarten Zoom Learning Tools

    Funded Feb 3, 2021

Thank you so much for funding our project "Kindergarten Zoom Learning Materials"! The timing of your funding was perfect! Our city had a 2nd wave of COVID cases and we had to shut down. Than meant that teachers could not go to school to get materials for their students. The materials in this project were sent to my home and I was able to delivery them to each of my students.

My students were so happy to receive Crayola Markers, Crayola Crayons, Drawing paper, new white board erasers and markers, and new glue sticks. They were most excited about the Play-Doh kits because they like to create things and it is good for their fine motor development. We use the Play-Doh in our Zoom class to re-create characters from stories we read, to make letters, words, numbers. With Play-Doh, the possibilities are endless!

We are currently on a hybrid schedule with 16 of my 22 students remaining at home to attend Zoom class. All of my students are taking good cared of the "Zoom" materials you provided and using them in class. Thank you once again for your generosity! You made a difference in the lives of 22 precious, amazing Kindergarten students and their teacher!”

    With gratitude,

  • Teaching Anti-Racism to Kindergarteners

    Funded Dec 3, 2020

Thank you so much for funding our project "Teaching Anti-Racism to Kindergarteners"! At a time when my own students see racial injustice in their lives this project is important and lays the foundation for young children to express their feelings and experiences about cultural and ethnic identity.

With this project I was able to read the books about Cultural Diversity and share the posters "Faces of the World" with my students during our Zoom classes. My students were engaged and curious and wanted to learn more about the places where the people in the posters came from. This sparked a whole Social Studies unit where we studied various countries including the language, cultural songs and dances, and food. My students were eager to learn about cultures they didn't know about and approached their learning with curiosity and respect. I am so proud of them!

The materials in this project also helped me create a "Family Project" for my students. They used the "Giant Paper Kids" along with the multicultural paper, crayons, and markers to create themselves. They presented this to the class and gave personal information and told what makes them special. I felt this assignment was impactful in helping each child feel special and appreciated.

As we finish the school year we will continue to read the books funded by your generous donation and continue to learn about and appreciate diversity. Thank you once again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Garces

  • Outdoor Playhouses for Kindergarteners

    Funded May 13, 2019

Thank you so much for supporting my Kindergarten students! Your contributions to "Outdoor Playhouses for Kindergarteners" have impacted more than 100 Kindergarten students. These houses are in our common Kindergarten area where students come to enjoy them at recess, lunch, and afternoon playtimes.

The students all love the houses and make up games like house, school, "carne asada", birthday party, and pizza restaurant. It's such a joy to see students playing outside, inventing stories together, and enjoying each other's friendships. These are moments that will be their sweet Kindergarten memories.

Thank you once again for your support to our public school Kindergarten program. We are grateful to know that because of our support, many more students will enjoy these playhouses for many years to come.”

  • Fitness for Kindergarten!

    Funded May 13, 2019

Thank you so much for your donations to my project "Fitness for Kindergarten!" We just began the school year and already my Kindergarten students are enjoying the balls, bean bags, ribbon sticks, hula hoops and more!

We are spending time on our Kindergarten playground everyday. My students love to play ball together, bouncing and kicking the ball across the yard. They also enjoy playing tossing games with the beanbags or dancing around with the ribbon sticks.

This project promotes health and wellness for young children. Thank you once again!”
