Every student deserves a voice. By playing and learning about the world around them, my students with communication delays will be able to experience the world around them while learning to speak and listen. 95% of the students in our school district qualify for free and reduced lunches. Many of them do not have access to toys and experiences that students in more affluent districts have. These toys will assist them to follow directions, speak in complete sentences, and use appropriate speech sounds when talking. Alphabet Teaching tubs contain common objects that student can label and describe, while learning to associate letter sounds to speech sounds. Real Size Classroom Food give students opportunities to make requests and learn to pretend play. The Mystery Box and Touch and Feel game help build vocabulary as well as teach textures and prediction skills. Positional Word Cards teach students to follow directions involving locations such as in/out, under/over, etc. Sequencing Puzzle Pictures develop sequencing and problem solving which eventually develops story-telling skills. What's Happening cards teach students to answer basic questions and learn verb vocabulary. With these items, my students will be effective communicators; telling others their and ideas and asking and answering questions. They will be prepared to learn and interact with the world around them. They will find their voices.
