Every year I am met with students who are extremely eager to learn but lack a wide range of personal experiences with the world around them. Many of my students come from low income families. They live in a city where grocery stores are not easily accessible without a car. However, when we are in our garden, the buildings around us seem to disappear, and my students are able to explore the unknown.
