Breaking News Builds Excitement!
Funded Sep 18, 2024The donation of Scholastic News to my class has already had an invaluable educational impact on the students. Although reading fluently was a strength of theirs. However, answering comprehension questions about informational text, deciphering the meaning of words through context clues, and locating textual supporting evidence were all skills and standards that needed strengtheneing. This became more evident while reviewing and correcting the first Scholastic News edition we received. More questions were answered wrong and vocabulary words misidentified than doing them correctly. Instead of being discouraged by this, I promoted that this was our starting point to grow and improve our success rate.
With every new edition and article came excitement with what they would read about, but also the opportunity to show growth and success compared to the article from before. The positivity ensued. Soon began the unsolicited converstaions amongst the students with comments such as "I really like doing this." The response from their classmates was "Me too! This is fun!" Along with the enjoyment of the activities related to Scholastic News, came the achievement. As time passes, more and more students are getting at least eight out of ten correct in the comprehension question section while showing the correct supporting evidence to prove thier answer. Additionally, more studnts are identifiying the meaning of words using context clues. They are taking what they have learned through Scholastic News and applying it to the core curriculum with confidence in their continued progress and advancement in english language arts.
This growth in strengthening these skills is also accredited to you for donating the resource. We will continue to grow with each Scholastic News edition and article that is delivered to us throughout the year. You are appreciated for your generosity. Thank you for contributing to the education of these fourth graders!”

Funded Mar 30, 2023There is excitement at the start of every week, when Scholastic news is delivered to each student. The students are the most excited to read the up to date articles in Scholastic News than any other informative text we read. This has created a positive reaction to reading overall. They also enjoy the debates in Scholastic News for discussion, but also for opinion writing. They enjoy using it in the classroom and for homework as well.
Since we started receiving Scholastic News, the students have improved in answering comprehension questions correctly, using context, clues to determine the meanings of words, and finding evidence in the text to support their ideas. They are becoming more competent readers with topics they are interested in reading. They are now using these academic skills to apply to other stories and subjects. The students are showing more success thanks to the use of Scholastic News. We are very grateful for your contribution in getting this resource to us!”

Funded Feb 3, 2023Our class is so appreciative of the gift of a Calming Corner. It has been used by students for different reasons. When emotions become overwhelming, there needs to be a safe place to go to get back to a calm and peaceful feeling. Before the Calming Corner existed, students would ask to go outside to have a moment, and a quiet place to calm down since there wasn't a designated place in the classroom where this could happen for them. Now, they asked to go to the Calming Corner when they need to feel at peace. It also is more inviting and secure for the students to remain inside the classroom.
Your generosity has provided so many options for these fourth graders while they are calm down. The students have a comfortable place to sit. They gravitate towards the different tactile objects, depending on their mood, and depending on each child. The variety of objects and bright "happy" colors allows them to get to a calm and peaceful feeling quicker. They are more readily able to join the class again in a quicker time frame. Thank you again for helping to create a space that values the students social emotional well being.”

Help Us Become Future Math Masters (That Save Trees!)
Funded Jun 21, 2012My students and I are so grateful for your generous donation to our classroom! The math activities and plastic sleeves that you donated have helped my students everyday. We use the sleeves for daily multiplication timed tests. The students enjoy using their whiteboard markers for the tests and are learning their facts. The students get so excited when they see the math activities come out. It is a change of pace and makes math fun for them. It also gives them an opportunity to work in groups and see math in real life situations that are common in everyday life. It makes math enjoyable and meaningful.
Our school is facing a budget shortfall, so without your donations, my students would not have access to such stimulating materials. It is important for the students to master these math skills and the donated materials will aid in that goal.
Without donors like you, thousand of classrooms would go without.”

Saving Trees One Lesson at a Time
Funded Jan 19, 2012Thank you so much for donating to our project! We love our Write and Wipe products! My students get so excited every time I take them out. I get so much enthusiastic participation from every student for class activities when they are used. They are able to use them to write on and easily manipulate them. They are great for whole class, as well as small group activities in all subjects. A tool that may seem as simple as a product to write on with erasable markers, motivates the students to take a vested interest in learning the content to help them become successful.
I like to say, "Let's save a tree," when I pull them out. The students always smile with a sense of pride because they are helping out the environment. It is an empowering feeling to know that as a child, they can contribute to saving our planet.
With the depleting school budget, these products are not only helpful in saving paper to conserve trees, but also to conserve funds for other needed supplies at our school site. Donors like you really make a difference in supplying the education of our youth with tools they may otherwise not have the chance to utilize.”
