  • Put a Cloud in Their Hands

    Funded Jun 22, 2016

Words are not the only way a story impacts you, this project, Put a Cloud in Their Hands, gave the students another way to show how a book makes them feel. A story with an uplifting message, can be conveyed through happy, fun colors; while a book that leaves you with a feeling of sadness can be told through the darker, deeper colors. Students need an outlet for their feelings other than just words so using colors that they can keep after completing the project shows that reading is a way to impact their lives in more ways than the typical book reports which are the norm.

Students now have a piece of art that is one of a kind that will remind them they had the opportunity to show how a book felt to them, there is no right or wrong way to create abstract art as there is no right or wrong way to interpret a story! One student, after reading, said this was the first time she had read without the pressure to agree with the rest of the class or the teacher! She is now visiting the library on a regular basis to explore and find books that appeal to her - thank you to the donors who have turned her into a reader!

Again, words alone cannot thank those who donated to this project, but know, that your choice to help fund Put a Cloud in Their Hands could not have happened without you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

  • Can I Borrow the eBook??

    Funded Aug 23, 2015

Thank you so much for your generosity and for fully funding our project!

The students in my district do not always have the latest electronics at home so the ability to borrow a Kindle gives them the power to learn on their own without embarrassment, to be able to handle the technology in a non-threatening manner without a grade of peer judgment attached.

When students in one of the 9th grade classes found out about the availability of the Kindle's an actual cheer went up – I wish you could have been there to see the happiness you provided to some of the kids with the toughest exteriors.

Again, your generosity is amazing and appreciated to a degree I cannot convey through this note; I hope you realize how much you have touched the lives of the students.

    Sincerely,

    Nancy”

  • Can You See What I See?

    Funded Dec 22, 2009

Thank you so much for providing my students with a projector so that they can practice and demonstrate presentations to their peers.

As you can see from the photos students are engaged in planning a presentation lesson for their classmates. With your kind generosity, they are able to preview their work, fine tune their presentations and teach their classmates what they have learned in the process. Students are lining up to use the equipment and are not satisfied with the first results, they have begun to rehearse and tweak their presentations, something that was not done prior to having this equipment.

Again, thank you for your kind thoughtfulness and for caring about the future of our students! ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

  • Find It Fast!

    Funded Feb 9, 2009

Today the first part of your donation arrived and the students already are planning how to use the shelf markers. They are abuzz with anticipation of the impending organization and easy searching thanks to your generosity!

The students are excited to get the markers in place and already are clamoring to be the first to use the cart to gather books. In our under-lit library, having shelf markers will allow the students to quickly find books and materials. When the book truck arrives it will give them an area to browse books that are 'in demand,' those that are the most popular or the newest arrivals; and will also allow them to bring books to the newly marked shelves for ease of re-shelving.

Again, thank you so much for taking an interest in our students and please know that you have touched the lives of many students with your unselfish act.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

  • What Are You Reading Today?

    Funded Jul 7, 2008

thank you so much for helping my students achieve their goals of reading more so that they can increase their vocabulary!

We are so grateful for your thoughtfulness and look forward to using the labels to make it easier for the books to be identified by genre. Also, the camera will enable the students photos to be posted on the book reviews they will produce for the library.

Again, thank you for your generous help in funding this program”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

  • Library Assistants: the Next Generation

    Funded Nov 20, 2007

Thank you so much for funding our Library Assistants! The students have embraced their role in library leadership and will be so excited and thankful for the opportunity to teach others about how to use the online resources by using the flash drives to move tutorials from one computer to another.

Thank you again, it is so wonderful that there are people like you who take interest and value our students”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Lee

My urban high school library serves over 1800 students, most of whom live in conditions we can only imagine, yet still most maintain a positive outlook and have the same dreams for the future as students all over the world. Many of our students have no home computer and rely on the library for access and spend time before and after school and also give up their lunch breaks to use our limited library resources. With a projector dedicated for their use, they can practice skills that will enhance their education now and in the future.
