  • ABC's For You and Me: Literacy for Little Learners

    Funded May 20, 2021

We are just getting started and our year has been a bit rocky due to Covid. We continue to build classroom routines and structures, each morning the helper of the day gets to build their name with magnetic letters. That is all because of your awesome donation. My little learners are learning their letters and sounds! You rock.

My favorite item from the project was the professional development book about teaching phonics including the most recent teaching reading research. I overhauled my teaching pedagogy this summer after reading the book and shared the highlights with all of our pre-kindergarten team. The impact of your project reached beyond my classroom. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Elder

  • Knowing I Belong: Play Builds Strong Connections

    Funded May 4, 2021

Our pretend play house is by far the MOST popular area in our classroom. Students confirm every morning that they will have the opportunity to choose that area to play there.

They love it so much. The language I hear while they play, the friendships that bloom and all the executive functioning skills learned and practiced while having a blast playing with the materials you helped provide. It is a sight to behold.

The kitchen part is so adorable. The tiny play microwave that beeps, the stove burner stickers that look real, I heard one student remind another to be careful. The area will provide hours of pure learning delight, thank you.”

  • Kinder Backpack Beautification

    Funded May 5, 2020

You went out of your way to be kind to my classroom in these uncertain times, that speaks volumes to the person you are. Thank you very much for the generosity you have shown, over and over again on the behalf of my students. Your ongoing support of 24th Street Elementary School has been a ray of sunshine to the staff and students.

I marvel at your impact; think about the art projects students have created because of your donation, the building and STEM activities students have imagined or the basic supplies, like Blue Light eyeglasses, writing notebooks, special markers, everything to make school a positive experience. These are the tools students NEED to be successful. Your dedication and commitment to learning is inspiring. We are creating life long learners with a passion for giving and thinking. Thank you for joining our team.

Although we have yet to use our backpack cart because we are learning remotely. Please know your kindness did not go unnoticed. Thank you!”

  • Rolling in the Books

    Funded Mar 27, 2020

A big warm fall hug to everyone who gave to this project. We needed a new bookcase in our classroom library and you came through for my kindergarten class. Thank you!

It is a beautiful maple wood shelf with six cubbyholes for beautiful baskets of children's picture storybooks. It is on wheels so I can wheel it around anytime we want to change it up and move our classroom library. Plus it matches our other bookcase. Yay!

I LOVE books and buy them to use in our classroom consistently. You can see my dining room table was filled with baskets of books. Now that the new shelf is here, the books will have a home. The shelf will allow easy access for students to love and cherish their beloved storybooks.

Thank you again for your generosity and kindness.”

  • Comfortable Kinders

    Funded May 28, 2020

The bench is amazing, so functional and easy to sanitize. Thank YOU for supporting my classroom. This is our second bench because last year students were literally fighting to sit on the bench in our library area.

I love books and feel they are the number teaching tool. The bench will house several baskets of wonderful picture books for my students to browse.

I also received four cushion seats which will be used as seating in the library as well. They are squishy and fun. Plus they are a beautiful sky blue.

Your kindness and generosity are appreciated by myself and my twenty-five little learners. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart. ❤️📘🍎”

  • Kinders Love Books

    Funded Mar 16, 2020

I wanted to share with you the impact your donation will make for the kindergarten students of my school. I bought sets of books to assist in teaching Reader's Workshop to our littlest learners. The sets will rotate between our five kindergarten classrooms.

One of the sets is all different versions of the beloved story of "The Gingerbread Man". We embark on a study, our students learn about authors and how they choose characters and settings in their stories. We look for different plot twists in the versions and the effects can change the conclusion of the story.

We also got sets of the child centered Froggy books. These stories delight students with the mishaps Froggy goes through in his daily life. Students can make connections to the stories and their own lives.

Finally we purchased sets of books for our author study of Jack Ezra Keats, a favorite author of teachers and students a like. He wrote stories about children living in urban settings and the adventures living in the city can bring. His characters are diverse and mirror the students in our school. Thank you for the huge impact you are making on our student's reading journey.”

  • Kinders Love to Read

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Four simple words describe my heart, "Our bookcase is beautiful!" Thank you very much for your very generous donation. I rarely ask for donations that are not materials the students use daily, I mean things they can touch, play with and wear out, LOL. But the bookcase brings me joy, thank you. Yes the students use it daily, they touch it several times a day, our library is a central part of our classroom.

We had a bookcase, it was old and broken plus had "SALVAGE" stickers all over it. Yes, I dug it out of the trash pile when I began at 24th Street Elementary because I LOVE BOOKS. I believe books are the most important teaching tool a teacher has. The new beautiful fancy bookcase on wheels no less, is bright, shiny and clean. All the things my students deserve.

Thank you for making that happen for me but my students as well. I truly appreciate it, My teacher heart is really happy. Thank you!”

  • Kinders Love Learning

    Funded Oct 25, 2019

I am blessed to have this opportunity to thank you for the wonderful mixture of learning materials our kindergarten class received due to you generous donations. First the favorite item by far was the simple thin tipped black markers that our students use for Writer's Workshop everyday. When a few students had the privilege to deliver the special items to ALL of our kindergarten classes, they reported being cheered and receiving applause from their peers.

There is something magical about black markers and the enticement it offers our youngest writers. Even the reluctant writer will write more and longer using a marker compared to a pencil. The markers makes writing special. Thank you, YOU DID THAT FOR US.”

  • Kinders Love Art

    Funded Sep 28, 2019

Our easel is utterly gorgeous. It has room for two students to create. It is on wheels so we can move it inside or outside. But honestly the students are using it completely different than I excepted. They are using it to play school. They pull it up to my teaching chair and attach the pocket chart and "teach" each other how to read the sentences. It is amazing to watch. I am mesmerized to see them reacting my teaching. Your generosity touches my heart.

The weaving loom is so fun. We have it set up with all sorts of materials to weave through the looms. So far we set out yarn, material and paper strips. Next we are going to try nature items.

Your kindness means a lot to myself and my kindergarteners. Providing an outlet for my students to create is beyond generous. My goal as a public school teacher is too help my little learners find their talents, your donation gave me the materials to make that happen. Thank you!!”

  • Comfortable Seating for Kinders

    Funded Aug 14, 2019

Our book bench is the bomb! It is such a huge hit in my classroom, by far the most popular spot in our library to sit. Your donation directly effects my students learning, you gave them a comfy spot to sit and read books. Books open the magic of the world. thank you.

It is also perfect for a little girl in my class this year who can not sit criss cross on the rug. She sits on the bench at circle time so she is more comfortable. Thank you for giving directly to my students.

I really appreciate your generosity to 24th Street family. You truly are an angel for our students. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

We are a Title One school in high-poverty area. Over 65% of our students are learning English. We are a Re-Start School with limited funds. Many of our students are transient, and are moving in and out of the area due to parents changing jobs or to unstable living conditions. Many of our students live in multiple family households and have very limited means and space for having such toys, games, etc. Many of our students did not attend any type of preschool program, and have limited speaking ability in either home language or English. Any hands-on toys and materials will be beneficial as well as motivating towards the students' social development and academic success. 24th Street Elementary School is a dynamic school with a bright future for all students and families!
