  • Full STEAM Ahead!

    Funded Nov 21, 2017

Thank you donors for your generous donations. Our classroom is truly appreciative of your generosity and thoughtfulness. We are very excited to use our STEM kits in the classroom. These kits help provide a creative hands-on activity that kids can explore using STEM methods and critical thinking. We are using these kits for the students to work in teams and build skills necessary to get them ready for life long learning. The students are having so much fun learning new ways to build and create with their new tools. They are able to put rollercoasters together, create video games to link to an iPad, build robots, and code. These hands on experiences will help them as they move forward into middle school as they learn new ways to use robotics and technology. With these kits, students are working together and using their minds in ways that you wouldn't see using a paper and a pencil. Their creativity and critical thinking comes alive during these activities.

We thank you so much for fulling our project wishes and for helping our classroom become more a of STEM environment for learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Covarrubias

  • Innovation and Technology in our Hands

    Funded Dec 29, 2016

Our classroom greatly appreciates your generosity for donating two iPads, a charging station, and DVD drive to our students. Since receiving the iPads, my students have been able to access technology more frequently and have had opportunities to explore apps for learning.

In the classroom, iPads are becoming an essential part of our learning environment. Students are able to use them, any time, to take AR quizzes to help improve their reading comprehension. Also, for our fifth grade end of the year projects, the students were able to look up information and conduct research with the iPads. My students have also been able to access apps such as StoryboardThat which allows them to create storyboards to print. The storyboards they created looked great for Open House. Having more iPads in the classroom makes learning new material more fun and exciting. With having more technology in the classroom, it helps the students prepare for middle school and for their future education.

Fifth grade students love technology! They get very excited to use iPads. They enjoy learning on them and doing research. To our children, using an iPad becomes a fun learning tool. We have students who in the beginning of the school year didn't know much about using an iPad and all of the capabilities. However, now my students have become "experts," and can make their own presentations using the iPads. It's wonderful to see their worlds' open up to new technology.

We cannot thank you enough for this great opportunity that you have given us. Without your donations to our project, our students would not have the opportunities that other schools have readily available. Our students can now compete with other students in their own knowledge of technology. With these new iPads, our students will be able to advance and learn in a plethora of ways.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Covarrubias

  • Technology Makes Our Future Brighter

  • Technology Will Open the Doors to Our Future

    Funded Sep 15, 2014

My class is truly grateful and appreciative of all of your support and effort to help fund our project. My class was in great need of technology, and your generous donations helped brighten the faces of my 27 wonderful scholars. When I told my class the great news that our project had been funded, and that our class would be receiving a new Macbook Air laptop and two brand new iPads, my students were completely floored and overjoyed. They couldn't believe that we would be receiving such a gift. We have one very old, outdated computer in our classroom that is very slow and frustrating to use. We nicknamed her "Old Betsy." We had decide when our new technology came in, that Old Betsy could retire.

My students have been using their new technology with pride and excitement. We have been using the new iPads to take AR tests for reading achievement. They have been using the iPads and Macbook air for research for classroom projects that align to our Common Core Standards. My students are also using the iPads to create slideshow presentations using Keynote and PowerPoint. The slideshows represent information they have learned from reading Time for Kids. They present their slideshows to the class for a grade.

My students are loving their new technology, and they are enjoying a new way to explore and learn. The access of having new technology in the classroom has opened the door to more possibilities and other ways to learn new material. We can view videos on NBC Learn, a video library program our school subscribes to. If we are talking about a certain subject or a piece of information, and the students aren't clear what it is, we can play a video so easily on the Macbook air from NBC Learn, and the students are able to visualize what we are discussing in a more concrete way. My students are having a blast using our new technology and are able to learn more everyday. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for giving us a helping hand and a way to make technology more accessible to my scholars.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Covarrubias

  • Make Technology Come Alive in my Students' Eyes

    Funded Feb 17, 2012

Thank you so much for your generous donation and thoughtfulness! The students and I are enjoying our new laptop. It has opened so many teaching moments for us in the classroom that we hadn't been able to achieve before.

With our new laptop, my students have been able to watch a preview of the math lesson in a cartoon format with manipulatives to get them engaged and excited about math. Math seems so much more interesting to them now when they are able to preview the lesson with the enhanced DVD. My students are also able to take reading quizzes on-line with our Accelerated Reader program. The laptop is much faster than our two old computers in the classroom, and they enjoy using the laptop too. I have also been able to create slide shows of pictures we have taken through out the year with the laptop. The students really enjoy seeing themselves and all of their pictures.

From the bottom of our hearts, we truly thank you for your generous gifts. We really appreciate all of your kindness.”

  • A Rug On The Floor, Can Mean Much More

    Funded Jan 21, 2012

It is with sincere gratitude that I am writing this letter to you. We are so happy and thankful for your generous donation to our classroom. Our rug is beautiful and has brought so much light and new learning experiences for my students.

When I first told my students that we were going to ask for a new rug, they were so excited. They couldn't wait to get the rug. With our new rug, my students feel more comfortable and confident with their learning. It has given them a clean place to sit and read. Reading is a skill that needs to be taught in close proximity to the teacher. My students feel eager now to come to the rug and practice their newly learned reading skills. They also enjoy independent reading time where they can sit and read by themselves or a with a partner on the rug. The rug has become a comfortable, fun place to learn in the classroom.

Thank you again for your generosity! Our class has been overwhelmed by your kindness, and your thoughtfulness has inspired us to be more enthusiastic learners.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Covarrubias

My fifth graders are a diverse group of students who are eager to read and learn new things. Every day when I go to pick them up in front of my classroom, I see 30 smiling happy faces ready to start the day. Just seeing their excitement for school, makes me feel so lucky to be teaching them and sharing my enthusiasm of every thing that we will learn all year long.
