Rug StRUGgle
Funded Aug 14, 2024The beautiful new rug created such a positive impact on our classroom! The rug is an essential part of our daily routine for activities including learning, sharing, socializing, and fostering relationships. When the students first saw the rug they began screaming and dancing on it! They couldn't wait to unpack and sit down to get a feel of the clean material, soft texture, and bold colors. We sat in a circle to do a daily check-in and share emotions. Each button in the design provides a personal spot for each child and keeps them organized in rows. They were eager to know which button would be their assigned seat.
The rug is a wonderful place for whole group learning, but also has a role as a stage in the classroom. Students present monthly poem performances on the "rug stage" and the audience of peers enjoy listening from the back half of the carpet. In addition, we have weekly theatre lessons in which the rug has served as a stage for dances, tableau performances, and story reenactments.
Our class family is so grateful for the lovely rug and all that it offers. Our classroom setting is warmer, happier, and more effective as a result of your generous donation.”

Funded Aug 14, 2019Thank you so much for your donation of the ipad and protective case. We have utilized it a great deal in the classroom. My student used the ipad to research facts about historical figures, access online reference material to explore vocabulary terms and find synonyms, do coding activities, engage in online math learning, and complete peer to peer interviews. This product has proved to be effective and impactful across subjects.
The ability to have handheld online access and technology applications has been a game changer for my students. They are adept at using technology and to use those skills with the learning has added such motivation and excitement. They perk up any time the ipad is brought out and are even trying to think of more projects that could link with it.
Many of my students enjoy using the ipad in class, but a couple of them have grown passionate about the device. One child in particular is a special needs learner with autism. He often screams loudly, has trouble making friends, and doesn't always excel at paper and pencil assignments. He thrives on the ipad and has surpassed everyone in class on the online math activities program. Thus, when other kids need help on it, they ask him for guidance. He's become out in-house IT guy and it has been a real confidence booster for him. That's just one example of how the ipad has been a 'win-win' for my class.”

Funded Dec 25, 2018Thank you so very much for the thoughtful art supply donations! Most recently we used the watercolor paints to complete a rain crayon resist as a wrap-up on our weather unit. Also the students used the watercolors to complete daffodil paintings for out plant of the month study. In addition, the Sharpie markers and skin colored crayons were utilized for recent Dr. Seuss "Read Across America" projects. All the above mentioned projects took advantage of the wonderful drying rack, yay!
The students were beyond excited about the new materials when each materials shipment arrived! They were well aware of how badly we needed new markers and crayons, as we use them weekly, almost daily. One student remarked, "We can throw out those dried, crusty Sharpies at the bottom of the bin!" They've also taken new ownership of the drying rack and love putting their "wet" projects on a clear shelf.
In the coming weeks, student will make use of all the new materials as we attack our open house projects. Soon, they will be using the crayons and markers to publish their individual hardcover "life" books. Also, the watercolors will be used to make stained glass sun painting with warm and cool colors. As the room buzzes with multiple projects and work stations, it will be a blessing to use the drying rack as an organized space saver!”

Funded Feb 2, 2012This note is a small token of my appreciation and gratitude for the new digital camera and memory cards. We use the camera on a weekly basis to document learning. We took pictures of balancing and engineering challenges in the science lab. We photographed treasured experiences with the dance and music teachers. Students even took pictures of each other for Open House projects! We've captured a year's worth of fantastic memories and I'm excited to do the same with next year's class. Our state's current financial position is rather dim and never could have provided such a luxury item. I am so, so thankful for your overwhelming generosity!”

We use the carpet daily, for activities like reading stories, lessons at the white board, partner decodable reading, role playing, small group work, math manipulative work, and presentations. The kids LOVE learning at the rug!You are all aware of the financial status of the district, and I truly believe this never would have happened without your generosity.
