Our school is a Title 1 school in a rural setting. The parents are very supportive of every musical event, but many of them cannot afford extras. We have had a large turnover of music teachers for various reasons. This is my first year and I can see how lacking our 5th graders' music education is compared to the school where I student taught. It makes me sad that they have not had the same opportunities. I would like my students to receive a private school music education even though this is Title 1 school with limited resources. The students at this school (K-5) are wonderful. We have approximately 350 students very little discipline problems. They are sweet and very appreciative. They love music class and we always have a good time learning. For our Holiday Concert we had over 1000 parents attend, which proves that they want their children involved in music. If we can get them, my plan is to have a Spring Concert where the 5th graders will perform on their recorders.
